This is a two part post influenced by a recent post reworking the Blade of Saeldor graphically into a longsword-appearing item here.

and also influenced by a post from a high rank in one of my old clans a long time ago back when Chambers of Xeric was coming out here.

Credit to u/theatlantis_rs and u/DsyyR on reddit, as I took their two ideas and combined them.

The idea behind this post is that 4-tick weapons are boring and bland, they're all comparable in DPS and essentially reskins/reworks of each other in an effort to keep the others from becoming dead content. It appears the original idea was for the Blade of Saeldor to become a 4-tick slash weapon, aka a scimitar, but I think Jagex could do better. I think they should make it a 5-tick slash weapon, aka a longsword, and add a damage boosting effect to the item, similar to what the Twisted bow has. Bare with me here as I explain. A longsword that u/DsyyR proposed a long time ago had a strength-boosting passive effect, where the higher the defence bonuses of a monster, the more DPS the sword would become. This at the time was aimed at keeping the abyssal whip and tentacle higher DPS for Slayer, but making this sword BiS for bossing. The same formula could work still today since only the ghrazi rapier has come out since and that just mildly outclasses a tentacle. The artwork by u/theatlantis_rs would be perfect for this sort of item, and u/DsyyR's plea for a variety in weapons that also come from end-game PvM is consistent with where the Blade of Saeldor will come from. I think this is honestly the perfect fit for the game.

Tl;dr: this longsword with a passive strength-boosting effect would keep weapons like the whip or rapier BiS for Slayer, but make this longsword BiS for bossing.

I like the idea of variety, but a weapon that boosts based on defensive stats sounds quite broken. I think you need a different form of variety, in all honesty. I mean Scythe is better against bigger creatures. Do something like that. Niche use.

A blanket boost against something that is supposed to make bosses HARDER just doesn't make sense, sorry.

Did you bother to look at the calcs at all? It's only marginally better DPS vs. Graardor than say, an abyssal tentacle. It's supposed to make longswords RELEVANT, not OP. Right now any weapon that isn't a four-tick weapon and isn't used for flinching (i.e. Elder Maul) is basically considered garbage. A boost like this on a slower weapon could make it viable for bossing, but keep your quicker weapons BiS for Slayer or mid-tier monsters. This isn't broken by any means, certainly no more broken than the Twisted bow (which has a similar effect) or the blowpipe which I don't know how that ever made it past testing. But if you really want boring, monotonous 4-tick weapons that are literally just re-skins of each other, have at it. I would prefer more variety in my choice of melee weapons.

What calcs first of all, since all of your 'links' direct back to this thread.

Regardless, Graardor has LOW def, so if it is marginally better against him, that means OP against someone with actual high def. New weapons that force all future bosses to be made around aren't the best things for the game. Look at how many bosses they had to tweak to make the twisted bow not OP as hell. That only had to do with magic attack, which not many bosses had.

You're suggesting something that is more potent the higher a bosses def is. Do you know how absurd that is?

He posted the link but didn't realise the RSOF are the worst designed forums on the internet. But you knew you could get the links from his posts though...

The math on that suggestion doesn't add up.

They say the formula is 1+x/1000 but it is going up far more than 1 or 2 strength bonus. I assumed they meant 1+x/100, but even that doesn't add up.

Clarify so I can actually do real calculations, rather than blindly taking someone's word that it isn't broken.
