Community Chronicle 27/11

Holidays are coming… Holidays are coming… welcome to the super special Christmas edition of the Community Chronicle!

Competitions

Competitions this month started off with a bang! The Halloween flash fiction contest saw over 220 entries and I was truly impressed with the stories that some people could write in just 15 words!

Entrants were supposed to compose the scariest story possible, but I have to quote one that although not terribly scary, was awfully funny by Ocman Rizz:

“Diango lowered his head and uttered quietly, ‘I’m sorry, I have no more yo-yos’.”

As the well of goodwill was active this month to promote three awesome charities, there was also the chance to invent your own RuneScape charities with our RS charities competition! Some amazing ideas here including]an association dedicated to help Dungeon bosses find appropriate shelter and get the proper medical care; a Hellhound cruelty awareness and action group; and a fund for adventurers struck with PT SD: Post Trail Stress disorder.

Given the orb of Oculus was graced with a nice shiny update, a competition organized around this was started this month and as I write these lines over 40 entries have been submitted. Tune in next month for the results.

With Christmas just around the corner, keep an eye out on the forums for some more competitions to take part in!

Forums

For Christmas 2014, look out for our new forum which will have a new competition on it every weekday and one over the weekend! With prizes available every day, it’s worth taking a look.

Make sure you keep an eye on the community home forum which has weekly in-game Jmod events posted, as well as exciting competitions happening regularly from Mod Jon! The RuneScape Videos and Podcasts forum now has a countdown to the next Community Management Livestream, for your watching needs!

Social

November’s been an awesome month for us on social media – and December is set to be even more awesome as we move closer to Christmas!

RuneScape Snapchat

First up, we’ve made a RuneScape Snapchat account – ‘RuneScapeGame’ – and we’d love for you to add us and send us your RS-themed Snaps! Like jukerue here, who’s sent us this awesome collage of Divination-themed pics.

Name that Snowman competition

This December, a frosty (not that Frosty) terror will hit RuneScape. However, our upcoming snowman boss didn’t have a name! So, we asked for your help across social media and our forums; and, as ever, you delivered with aplomb. We had over 2,000 entries, and whittling them down to just one winner was really tough!

Snowman Boss

Congratulations to Xylver, whose name ‘Snowverload’ we’ve chosen. Xylver wins a very cuddly snowman & 2 Bonds!

Christmas fun and frolics

We’ve an absolutely awesome Christmas lined up for you guys (there will be more details later today!) – so make sure you’re keeping up to date on our forums and social media channels for amazing competitions, challenges, and all-round good cheer.

Think of it as RuneScape’s Christmas Advent-ure!

Jmods on Twitter

Did you know? We have over 100 Jmods on Twitter! Whether it’s describing the contents of their breakfast, revealing awesome new content, or answering your questions about the latest update, they’re here to help.

Here’s a complete list of Jmods on Twitter. Make sure you’re following your favourites!

Media & Events

First up in our media section is a video by Sir MIkkel – a nice quest parody, check it out!

Similar to the movie Purge, this episode (also by Sir Mikkel) had us captivated. Great first episode, we really enjoyed your use of camera and creativity!

Our final video feature is by Geese Go Moo… if you’ve ever wanted to know what Prifddinas would look like as a pizza… well look no further!

A big thank you for everyone that submitted their videos this month.

We’ve had a really good turnout for events this month kicking off with bonfire night and a woodcutting and firemaking skill and chill, our biggest turnout being PvM week (see KBD pic) which we got a lot of positive feedback for. Mod Jon has taken a huge part in the Jmod events since being a part of the team, we both died during PvM week and it seems our FCs won’t let us forget it (see “NeenaDied” pic)!

Neena Died

After each event this month we have made donations to the Well of Goodwill which tied in nicely with PvM week and all events where we gained a lot of loot. There has been some friendly banter between the mods doing events and overall it’s been a lot of fun. We’ve got plenty planned for you in the next few weeks, hopefully you’ll be able to take part.

RS Community Event

Other events this week include the Thanks Giving Parade with Mod Jon and Mod Neena at 4pm GMT Thursday and a Skill ‘n’ Chill session with Mod Kalaya on Friday afternoon. For more information, please see here.

Fan site, Clans & Christmas Post Box

Our fan sites are beavering away getting their many festive plans in order and we’d highly recommend you visit them and see all the amazing things they have planned – from Zybez’s annual 12 days of advents spanning both RuneScape and Old School to CzechoSlovak Forces’ astounding advent Calendar giveaway with some incredible prizes – Christmas really is the season to share with your friends!

Christmas is often a busy time for our Clans with lots of friends and this year will be now exception – from Wandoodle’s Divine Scapers experience competition, to FTC and the Halls of Light’s joint calendar of Clan based events. Shattered Moon and Fort Hope are even running their own secret Santas while long standing Clan Leader Glue Pot (who looks a lot like a certain Mr Claus we are told) will be hosting his famous Christmas giveaways on World 80 –keep an eye on the forums for the times for these great social events!

With Christmas rushing towards us we’ll be inviting you all again to send an E-Card or Festive message to Jagex, the RuneScape team or your favouritest JMod and spread the season’s cheer to all! We’ll be having a special post box in office and hand delivering them around the office as the magic day draws near – sadly we can’t accept real cards, email only for this one.
