The
Capes of Distinction stand apart from the
Capes of Accomplishment. While earning any of these capes will, of course, be an accomplishment (of varying degrees), they are somewhat more showy. Sure, a level 99 skillcape is showy in the sense of 'Hey, look at me, I've got 99 in a skill', and come with a nice emote, but the capes noted below will tend towards being that little bit rarer (save for some of the lower-level milestone capes). Indeed, like with the quest cape, you'll have to continue to meet the criteria necessary to wear the max and completionist capes, as more content and skills are released. You'll see what we mean as you read more about them...
Milestone Capes
Weaving a milestone cape
These are a series of nine cosmetic capes that you can weave on a loom yourself, but you can only wear them when you have trained all of your skills to a multiple of 10.
For example, once all of your skills have been trained to level 10, you can wear a Milestone cape (10) (which can be made with one Ball of wool and level 10 Crafting). These capes go up to the Milestone cape (90), which requires 90 Crafting and nine balls of wool to weave, but all skills at level 90 to wear.
Veteran and Classic Capes
Hans in Lumbridge
|
Iffie in Thessalia's shop
|
These capes are earned by simply having 'been around the block a bit', much like the people who sell them, though each in different senses of the phrase. If you fancy a classic-looking Classic cape you'll need to visit Iffie, the granny in Thessalia's shop in Varrock, but only if your account is able to access RuneScape Classic.
If the veteran cape is more your style, then pay a visit to Hans, the man who's been doing circuits of Lumbridge Castle since (RuneScape) time began, so long as you started playing RuneScape at least five years ago. If you can't recall when you created your account, Hans will be able to give you some idea.
Both the 5 year and the 10 year veteran capes will allow you to perform an emote by right-clicking their icon in your inventory.
These capes will each set you back 50,000 coins a piece.

Max Cape
Catch up with Max in Varrock
Own a skillcape? Good for you, that's an accomplishment all right - but do you own a skillcape for EVERY skill? If so, you'll perhaps be familiar with the dilemma of deciding which to wear - which skillcape best shows off your achievements? Well, we'd suggest it's actually this particular cape of distinction - the max cape.
If you've got 99 in all RuneScape skills (you don't need 120 Dungeoneering), then you might want to seek out Max in Varrock. He'll be hotfooting around doing various skill tasks, but you should eventually bump into him in Varrock's east bank. If you've got the skills, he'll sell you a max cape and hood for 99,000 coins multiplied by the number of skills in RuneScape (i.e. currently 2,475,000 coins).
Like with clan cloaks, you are able to customise the colours of your max cape by right-clicking on it.

Completionist Cape
What's the matter, McFly?
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt? Or, in this case, got the cape! The completionist cape is the ultimate target for those looking to see and do everything that RuneScape has to offer. Think you might be worthy? Then head to the top floor of Varrock Museum where the completionist cape is on display, then try to take it from its display stand. Dahmaroc, he of Shattered Heart fame, has placed a magical barrier on the cape so that only those who are truly worthy can claim this most coveted of prizes.
If you prove to be worthy, congratulations - the display guard will let you, the cape's rightful owner, keep it...for a 'small' donation to the museum of 5 million coins. Fail and, well, after the public humiliation, a list of the requirements you'll need to fulfill to successfully claim the cape will be displayed in your chat box.
