Clans - The Basics

"…as the sun rose that fateful day we feared the worst, a great battle was before us. Greater than that of the long forgotten God Wars or the intense fighting between the Black and White Knights of Asgarnia. This fight was for victory greater than a simple plague on the wall of a building in Edgeville. This battle was for glory, for pride. And we weren’t going down without a fight of massive proportions..."

Ever since the beginnings of RuneScape, people have come together as units, as teams. These "Clans", as they came to be called, became a huge part of the game. Clans have only developed since then, becoming an even larger and more diverse part of the Community.

Whether it be a Player Vs. Monster Clan or a Skilling Clan, a Fishing Trawler Clan or a Questing Clan, this huge guide, here on the RuneScape Wiki, will help you understand the Basics of how to form and develop a Clan.

What is a Clan?

There's more to clans than Clan Wars

A clan is simply a group of players who choose to play together on a regular basis with a common goal in mind. Some clans come together only for a specific tournament, while others have been around since the earliest days of RuneScape. Some of the longest running clans such as 'The' Clan, Gladiatorz (aka Gladz) and BlacKnights have seen it all and are still together today thanks to their camaraderie and shared love of pwning other players.

While many clans exist purely to wreak havoc in the Wilderness, the diversity of clans means that there's more than likely one suited to you. Take the Caped Carousers, for example, who began as a small group that liked to get together to celebrate completing all of RuneScape's quests; years later, they're now a thriving community of Quest Cape owners. Modzilla is another good example; their roots lie in the P-Mod team, but now they're a huge clan who get together to train skills, compete and generally just hang out together.

Some clans choose to have certain entry requirement (e.g. a minimum combat level) and some are happy to welcome anyone. The diversity of clans means there is always one out there for any player or, if there isn't, you can start one yourself! Being in a clan can lead to you meeting new people and making good friends, getting more involved in the community, and getting more enjoyment out of RuneScape.

  • If you're generally interested in clans, but aren't sure if they're for you, you might wish to visit the Clan Camp south of Falador to see what they're all about.
  • If you're interested in joining a clan, check out the Clan Recruitment page.
  • If you're interested in creating a new clan or officially registering your existing clan, check out the Clan Setup page.
  • If you have an officially registered clan, check out the Clan Events page.

Clan Support

RuneScape Dinasty vs Violent Resolution

Clan Support is a part of our Community Management team dedicated to working with players, clans, the clan community and other teams within Jagex, with the aim of furthering our support of all RuneScape clans. It is led by J-Mods who have first-hand experience with running clans and experience of RuneScape.

Clan Support offers a number of different things for clans:

  • Regularly moderated forums with support and advice from J-Mods.
  • Advice from J-Mods on how to run a clan, the issues that can arise and general game knowledge.
  • Direct access to the Clan Support team through clan leaders.
  • Major Jagex-created events, such as the Jagex Clan Cup.
  • J-Mod support for events created by clans/the clan community.
  • A clan database housing player-created information covering all RuneScape clans.
  • Passing on specific feedback to the RuneScape Content team regarding clans and their suggestions.

Clan Leaders

In October 2008, we opened the clan leader forums for all established clans to take part in. This is a private forum for clan leaders only; it is kept private so that clan leaders have a place where they can feel confident about expressing their honest views and for giving feedback to us without fear of being scrutinised by anyone else. For you or your clan to access this forum, you need to be an established clan with a sizeable community, and for your clan leader to be officially recognised by us. This is to ensure that clans don't yo-yo between having access to this forum and not having access.

Having your clan and clan leader being officially recognised by us has a number of advantages for your clan:

  • Direct access to the Clan Support J-Mods for any help, questions or advice that you have or need.
  • Meetings with Clan Support and other clan leaders, held on a weekly basis.
  • The ability to raise issues about your clan, the clan community, or anything else to all clan leaders in one forum.
  • Help and advice from experienced clan leaders and the knowledge and resources of specialist J-Mods.
  • Information about and help with planning clan events.

The clan leader forum isn't restricted to players whose clans are run through the RuneScape official forums, it is open to every RuneScape clan.

Clan Creation Guide

If you are looking for a simple guide to starting, producing and developing a Clan using all the features that you will have to hand then take a look at this page, split up into sections it will take you through, step-by-step how to form your clan!

From an Experienced Clan Leader...

Hi there! If your reading this then you're obviously wanting to start up your own, and hopefully, successful RuneScape Clan! Well, take it from me, this is no easy feat. It will take hours of work and a lot of practice before you manage to get your Clan active and powering ahead through the Tiers of the Clan Citadels!

Clans, as I've already said take a lot of work. Literally hours. To make it a successful and lively place. So below I’ve made a few basics that I always run through when changing something about the clan or adding a new feature!

  • Theme - Do you have a theme your Clan will work around? Will it be based on Player Vs. Monster? Player Vs. Player? Skilling? The Fishing Trawler? No matter how you decide to start up a Clan, a clear theme should be used. If you're a Slayer you don't really want to be doing Fishing events do you?
  • A Name - Your Clan name needs to fit with the Theme. You wouldn't see "The Cabbage Crew" farming Strawberries would you? So remember this, keep the name in-tune with your Theme. It makes it easier for potential members to find it!
  • Forums - This is simple; use them. The RSOF, or RuneScape Official Forums, are very popular for Clans. Many Clans will use this area to create a thread dedicated to their Clan. It's worthwhile and it works. So please! Take advantage of this!
  • Clan Forums - This is a recent feature brought in by Jagex and is also worth using. Not many people search for a Clan via this feature, but is useful for broadcasting private information to Clan Members as it has it's own Forum!
  • Plan - Planning beforehand is always worthwhile. I always used to write out my thread on word first and then copy and paste it into the Forums! Hasn't failed me yet!
  • Have Fun! - Most importantly have fun when running a Clan! If you aren't having fun then neither are your Clan Members!

There isn't much else to say here! Please enjoy yourself guys and girls. Clan Leadership is hard, but possible.

If you are interested in clans then you might also like to read the Clan Submissions pages, a semi-regular blog containing news from the clan community, clan interviews and reviews of recent clan events. Finally, there's a lot of information to take on board if you're new to clans, or to clans in RuneScape. As such, if you have any questions, you might wish to head to the Clan Introduction thread.

Best of Luck!
