| Warning | ||
| Darkmeyer can only be accessed once you have started The Branches of Darkmeyer. You should be warned that Darkmeyer is a dangerous area filled with vampyres. You should be dressed appropriately if you wish to avoid being attacked. Those who have completed The Branches of Darkmeyer will know more about the necessary protection while wandering Darkmeyer. |
||
In the shadow of Castle Drakan sits Darkmeyer, home to Morytania's vampyres. Of the few humans who have seen it, most are tithed or killed soon after, while others act as personal tithers for the vampyres, and are forced to gather blood in Meiyerditch.
The city of Darkmeyer is split into three tiers. The lowest tier is filled with 'younger' juvinates or those who have fallen from favour, and they live in cramped, worn-down crypts that are packed tightly together. The middle tier is more spacious and wealthy, while the upper tier is where you will find the wealthy, the important, and the Arboretum, where a mysterious Blisterwood Tree is kept at bay. A vampyre will spend its long life trying to rise up these tiers, to get themselves noticed and - perhaps - even get the chance to usurp leadership from the long-absent Drakan.
Darkmeyer can be casually entered by vampyres, as they have wings to fly over its walls. As a human, getting in is a little more difficult. During The Branches of Darkmeyer, you will learn of a sewer entrance to Darkmeyer. This can be found in the north of Meiyerditch, and will take you into the lowest tier. You will not be able to enter the city before starting this quest.
To the west of Darkmeyer is Castle Drakan. You cannot currently enter the castle, but you hear rumours that Drakan lives here, gathering information on something that has distracted him for centuries.
To the south of Darkmeyer is Meiyerditch, so called because it's seen as the insanitary 'ditch' of Darkmeyer by the vampyres.
Movement about Darkmeyer is not without its restrictions. Vampyre society dictates that the younger, dirtier and poorer vampyres stay in ghettos in the lower tier, and those vampyres are not allowed to enter the middle or upper tiers. It's only by gaining status through acts that a vampyre can hope to move up the tiers and access the full city. If you manage to convince the vampyres that you are one of them, you will need to gain enough status for the various tiers so that they recognise you and allow you entry.
With the full city available to you, however, each tier has something to offer. The bottom tier is cluttered with abandoned crypts, which might contain some scraps of vampyre clothing. In the middle tier, you can find traders and the city jail, for miscreants and unwanted humans. On the upper tier is the Arboretum, built by Drakan to contain the fabled Blisterwood Tree, as well as the gates to Castle Drakan, a bank, the tithers, and warehouses where humans are gathered for killing or tithing.
| Vanstrom Klause |
Vanescula Drakan |
|---|---|
| By the time you make your way to Darkmeyer, during The Branches of Darkmeyer, Vanstrom has been promoted to a new but important post: destroyer of the Myreque. He's taking his job very seriously, and has looked to cut their supply lines, harry them at any opportunity and even locate their headquarters. He is passionate about their destruction, and very little can stop him. | Vanescula is a mysterious figure in Darkmeyer, with few vampyres able to get a grasp on her character. She is known to be more of a thinker than her headstrong brother, but just as powerful. To her satisfaction, she finds herself respected by a great many in Darkmeyer. |
| Vanstrom can be found in his crypt house on the upper tier. | Vanescula likes to explore Meiyerditch and all tiers of Darkmeyer. She is likely to be one step ahead of you at all times. |
| Ranis Drakan |
|
| Brother to Lowerniel, Victor, and Vanescula Drakan. Ranis is more involved in Darkmeyer society than either of his siblings. He polices the upper tier, and keeps an eye out for those who fall out of line. His temper is short, he tends to dislike the company of others, and is feared and respected by a great number of the Vyre. Whether he cares about that is another matter... | |
| Ranis can often be found patrolling outside the Arboretum and bank in Darkmeyer. |
There are no quests to start in Darkmeyer; besides the quest, The Branches of Darkmeyer, to get in Darkmeyer.
| Vampyre juvinate (Level 112) |
Vyrewatch (Level 112, 128) |
|---|---|
| Those juveniles who have been initiated into the dark families of the Sanguinesti nobility are called juvenates. Their powers are not yet complete, but they are fearsome warriors, nonetheless. | The Vyrewatch enforce the will of Drakan, and have many roles within Darkmeyer: they stop those who would intrude, they guard the most sensitive areas of the city, they herd humans to tithing, and they ensure that a vampyre sticks to its caste. |
| Vampyre juvinates can be found in the lower tier of Darkmeyer. | The Vyrewatch can be found throughout Darkmeyer. |
