Troubling reports are arriving from scouts in the Wilderness: zombies are amassing and organising. Zombies alone are incapable of such intelligent behaviour, and each time it has happened in the past great tragedies have come to pass. Captain Rovin, suitably concerned, needs your help to go on a dangerous mission to verify the reports.
Are the Varrock Guard just being paranoid, or could this be a major threat to their city?
Reading The Legend of Arrav in the Lores & Histories section of the website will give you a better appreciation of the storyline of this quest.

Captain Rovin has asked Hartwin and myself to go and investigate a possible zombie army being raised in the Wilderness that may threaten Varrock.
I can talk to Hartwin on the top floors of Varrock Palace, and he will take me into the Wilderness, north of Varrock. Hartwin is so stealthy that I will not be attacked by other players while I am in the Wilderness.
Once I'm stood within the grounds of the graveyard, I should ask Hartwin to show me the evidence he found of the zombie army.
| Graveyard of Shadows | Ruins |
| Chaos Temple |
If I manage lose Hartwin somehow, then I'll need to return to Captain Rovin who'll be able to put me in touch with him again. He is on the top floor of the north-west tower in Varrock Palace.
Hartwin has detected the beginnings of a trail left by a large number of zombies leaving the Graveyard of Shadows in the Wilderness.
I'll have to use my hunting and tracking skills in order to follow the trail.
Click here for more information about tracking.
Although I must follow the clues along the trail to get there, it's likely that I'll be headed towards some sort of large structure out here, even if the shambling zombies travel in random directions to get there. Pretty much the only thing of interest nearby is the Chaos Temple, so I should bear it's location in mind when I'm chosing which trail to investigate next.
Now I've found a key, I'll have to continue following the trail in order to find more information and possibly what the key opens.

If I lose the key, then I'll need to get another by searching the tree I found it in originally.
| Location of tree | Graveyard of Shadows |
| Chaos Temple |
This temple isn't exactly the largest of places to hide a zombie army; perhaps they went somewhere inside the temple?
I should investigate the trapdoor behind the altar in the Chaos Temple.
I will need to make sure that I have the 'grubby key' I found when tracking the zombies in order to unlock the trapdoor.
If I lose the key, then I'll need to get another by searching the tree I found it in originally.
Now that I've discovered this place, I need to search for clues as to why it's been constructed and why there are zombies amassing here.
I could try looking over the rail to see if there is anything further on in the base.
| Location of rail | Entrance |
I've managed to sneak inside Zemouregal's secret base, under the Chaos Temple in the Wilderness.
It would appear that the mahjarrat Zemouregal is planning to attack Varrock with a zombie army.
I should continue to explore the hidden base, underneath the Chaos Temple, in order to find out his plans and a way to stop him.
I need to pass through the secure door to get into the next section of the base.
| Location of first security door | Entrance |
I remember Zemouregal mentioning that he had created a new security system which used 'mist' to control access. I've also noticed that there seems to be a certain red mist hanging around the zombies in the corridors here.
I need to pick up three empty bottles and then kill some zombies. Once a zombie is dead - well, more dead than a conventional zombie - the mist will escape from its body and I can capture it in the bottle by 'using' it on the mist.
Once all three bottles are full, I'll then be able to pass through the door unimpeded.
I've managed to sneak inside Zemouregal's secret base, under the Chaos Temple in the Wilderness.
I've managed to get through the first security door, but I'll need to explore further in order to discover the full extent of Zemouregal's schemes.
Wow! I've met the legendary defender of Varrock, Arrav, in person. This really is something to tell my grandchildren! I should continue investigating the base, under the Chaos Temple in the Wilderness, to find more clues.
I need to pass through the second secure door to get into the next section of the base.
| Location of second security door | Entrance |
It seems likely that I'll need another three bottles of red mist in order to enter the next section.
I need to pick up three empty bottles and then kill some armoured zombies. Once a zombie is dead - well, more dead than a conventional zombie - the mist will escape from its body and I can capture it in the bottle by using it on the mist.
| Location of empty bottles | Entrance |
Once all three bottles are full, I'll then be able to pass through the door unimpeded.
I've managed to get into the third section of Zemouregal's secret base, under the Chaos Temple in the Wilderness.
I should now try looking over the balcony nearby to overhear more of Zemouregal's plans for Varrock.
| Location of rail I can look over | Entrance |
I must get back to warn Captain Rovin of Zemouregal's attack on Varrock.
I should speak to Hartwin and find out if he thinks we need to gather any more evidence first.
Captain Rovin has asked me to travel to speak to the last of the imcando dwarves, Thurgo, in order to find out the secrets of the Shield of Arrav's power.
I'll be able to find him in his hut on the coast, south of Rimmington and north of Mudskipper Point.
Thurgo told me that the only way to find out the necessary information is to travel to the ancient city of the imcando: Camdozaal. He gave me some coordinates in order to locate the entrance. From the looks of them, I'll need to use them with my compass, watch and sextant in order to find the point that matches the coordinates.
If I've lost any of my clue scroll items, I'll be able to get a replacement from the Professor at the Observatory, south of Ardougne.
Click here for more information about Treasure Trails.
I'll need to use a spade when I'm standing at the coordinates given on the scroll. These coordinates point to somewhere on Ice Mountain, just south-west of the Oracle's tent.
The coordinates that Thurgo gave me pointed to a patch of snow on the top of Ice Mountain, north of Falador.
Now that I've dug through the snow to the rubble beneath, I'll need to use a pickaxe to mine through it and hopefully find an entrance to Camdozaal.
Thurgo gave me coordinates to the entrance to Camdozaal which I dug and mined through to create a hole. The easiest way to find out where it goes would be to try crawling into it.
Thurgo gave me coordinates to Camdozaal, which I dug and mined through to create a hole.
Well, it would be rude of me to just ignore the imcando dwarf, so I should go and talk to him first to see if he'll allow me to use the forge.
| Location of Ramarno the imcando dwarf | Entrance |
I'll need to add a single load of blurite ore to the forge in order to get it working.
I can get blurite ore from the largest cavern inside the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon, next to Thurgo the dwarf's hut.
| Entrance | Blurite deposits |
Once I've got a load of blurite ore, I'll need to use it on the forge to get it up to temperature. The forge can be found in the north wall of the remains of Camdozaal.
Now that the forge has been fully stoked, I'll need to speak to Ramarno to be shown how to create a vision from its flames. I'll find Ramarno in the remains of Camdozaal, under the surface of Ice Mountain.
While I was having a vision within the flames of the Sacred Forge, the mahjarrat Zemouregal invaded it and spoke to me directly. He told me that the attack on Varrock had already begun.
I should return to Varrock and speak to Captain Rovin as soon as possible, to see if I can help in its defence from the zombie horde.
Arg, there are zombies in the palace of Varrock!
I should travel to the top of the barracks, in the north-western tower of the palace, to speak to Captain Rovin and see if there is anything that I can do to help in the battle.
Captain Rovin said that the best way for me to assist would be to find the person who can unlock the Shield of Arrav's power and defeat the zombie horde.
To do this, I'll need to find the Varrock Census, stored in Varrock Library within the Palace. I suspect I'll need to ask Reldo, the librarian, if he has any information about the founder of Varrock itself. The library is on the ground floor of the Palace, against the north wall.
If I misplace the Shield of Arrav, I'll be able to get it back from Captain Rovin - if his guards see it lying around, they'll return it to him. Captain Rovin can be found on the third floor of the north-west tower in Varrock Palace.
Reldo told me that he'd found some information on the original members of the Council of Varrock. He also said that a zombie knocked it onto the floor somewhere. I'll have to search the floor of the room until I find the list and then read it.
I'll then have to study the Varrock Census to see if there are any people descended from those in the council. I'll find the census on a lectern, against the north wall of the Varrock Palace Library.
If someone has the same last name, then it's likely that they are in some way related to the original founders.

Now that I found the list of names from the first council meeting, I'll have to look in the census to see if there is anybody who is descended from the people at the meeting. I'll find the census against the north wall of the Varrock Palace Library.
If someone has the same last name, then it's likely that they are in some way related to these original elders.
Once I've found a likely candidate in the census, I should travel to see them in Varrock and find out if they are the actual descendant by letting them hold the Shield of Arrav.
If I lose the list of elders then I'll be able to get another one from the floor of the library in Varrock Palace.
If I misplace the Shield of Arrav at any point, I'll be able to get it back from Captain Rovin - if his guards see it lying around they'll return it to him.
Captain Rovin can be found on the third floor of the north-west tower in Varrock Palace.
I should try talking to Sir Prysin in Varrock Palace. As an upstanding knight of the realm, he seems a likely candidate to be the descendant of the founder of Varrock.
I should try talking to Aeonisig, the Royal Advisor, in the throne room of Varrock palace. It's likely that someone so at ease with the minutiae of running a kingdom will likely be a descendant of the founder of Varrock.
I should go and speak to the museum curator over at Varrock Museum. Someone so interested in past ages might well have relations going back far into the history of Varrock.
I should go and speak to Horvik, the blacksmith's apprentice, in the smithy to the north-east of Varrock Marketplace. I've read enough stories to know that it's always the unassuming blacksmith who becomes the last living descendant of an ancient lineage and heir to an untold power. So, it must be him then.
It would appear that the elder's bloodline crossed over into the Fitzharmon family a few generations back.
This would mean that the last living descendent is Dimintheis Fitzharmon, the fallen noble, who lives in the south-east of Varrock, next to the city wall.
I must take the Shield of Arrav to him immediately, so that he can drive off Zemouregal's zombie horde.
If I've misplaced the Shield of Arrav, I'll be able to get it back from Captain Rovin - if his guards see it lying around they'll return it to him. Captain Rovin can be found on the third floor of the north-west tower in Varrock Palace.
I should return to speak to Dimintheis again in the south-east of Varrock and ask him to use the Shield of Arrav to destroy the zombies invading Varrock.
Now that Dimintheis has rid Varrock of zombies using the Shield of Arrav, I should return to Captain Rovin to see if any permanent damage was done to the city.
