Game session ended

The cause of this message is to do with your connection to our servers. This should not happen until about 6 hours have passed. If this happens before the 6 hours mark, please follow the instructions below.

Use a stable, broadband-like connection

As with other online games requiring a constant exchange of data, RuneScape will not function well (if at all) when played over mobile connections such as 3G/4G or other types of HSPA connection. Unfortunately this means that if you are using a mobile connection it is unlikely that we will be able to help you solve connectivity issues.

Restart your network hardware

  • Turn off your computer and any network hardware (for example, your modem and router).
  • Wait 30 seconds.
  • Turn on your modem, and wait for one minute.
  • Turn on the next piece of hardware (for example, your router), and wait another minute.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Load RuneScape and see if you continue to disconnect.

If you continue to experience disconnections, please try the next suggestion.

Try a wired connection (only if you are using wireless)

If you're using a wireless connection, try switching temporarily to a wired connection to see if your connection improves. This is an important test because it can confirm or eliminate the wireless connection as the cause of the slow performance or disconnects. If you do notice an improvement then it may be due to your signal strength of your wireless Internet. If the problem persists, then it may be a bandwidth issue.

Maximize your bandwidth

When you play RuneScape, make sure that other computers in your home are not downloading or transferring files. When someone in your house browses the Internet, they use up bandwidth. Note: Bandwidth is the amount of information transferred over your Internet connection. If your bandwidth is limited or fluctuates dramatically, it can affect the performance of RuneScape.

If the problem still persists after trying all of the above solutions, please try the next step.

Contact your Internet Service Provider

Contact your ISP to see if there are performance problems in your area. Your ISP may have a service status web page that you can visit.
