Take part in the sporting event of the season and represent your chosen deity in the Gielinor Games! There are several events to take part in including: marathons and cheese rolling. Head on over to Varrock to take part.
This year the gnomes have been chosen to host the event.
The gnomes have constructed a portal within Varrock to transport those that are taking part to a series of floating islands (courtesy of the clans) that have been custom made to host the Gielinor Games.
The warmup is no longer available to take part in now that the games have officially started. The details of the event can be seen below for posterity, however.

In the run up to the Gielinor Games, Oomad Arrow in Varrock has something fun for you to try - preparing for one of the biggest sporting events this year!
Speak to Oomad Arrow about helping with the Gielinor Games. He has 3 tasks that you can help with. Note that once you start a task, you must complete it before you can start another.
Medals
First, tell Oomad that you want to help make the medals. Mine some nuggets (bronze, silver or gold - depending on your lowest Mining or Smithing level) from the scrap pile and use them on the forge. You'll need two nuggets per medal. Hand these in to Oomad Arrow.
You can only make 7 medals a day.
Construction Materials
First, tell Oomad that you want to help make the girders. Mine some nuggets (clay, iron or steel - depending on your lowest Mining or Construction (m) level) from the scrap pile and use them on the forge. You'll need two nuggets per girder. Hand these in to Oomad Arrow.
You can only make 7 bricks/girders a day. Making construction materials is a members only activity.
Catering
First, tell Oomad that you want to help make the food. You'll be given a request for a certain combination of flavours, for example: sweet, spicy and sour.
Click on the kitchen and choose ingredients which embody the flavours you were asked to create. The higher your Cooking level, the more ingredients you can add.
You can only make 3 food dishes a day.

There are three types of marathon. Marathons will take place on specified worlds and at a specified time - keep an eye on the forums, or the worldwide broadcasts to find out when and where.
When a marathon starts, checkpoints will spawn at certain locations across the route. Go through all checkpoints, in order, as fast as you can. The minimap will give you an arrow to show you which direction the next checkpoint is at.
You will be rewarded with Constitution XP and contribution points depending on how fast you went, and the tier of marathon.

Head-to-head is a card game where you race other players. Each round you must play an ability card. You are then randomly given a new card, to replace the one you used. Each ability will move each of the racers a different amount, depending on their situation. If you run out of abilities you are removed from the race, as you will be if you gain 3 levels of the "struggling" status effect.
If a card affects you, it will have a black border, otherwise it will have a coloured border (green, blue gold or red) relating to the racer that it affects. White cards affect multiple players.
You will receive Agility XP and Contribution points depending on what position you came in the race.

First off, you cannot win at this game. It is impossible. It is an event as silly as the name and just intended as a bit of fun. With that out of the way...
The Cheese Wheel race is the simplest of the events. Simply click to the right or left of your character to move in that direction and dodge the obstacles. You don't even have to set a cheese wheel rolling, though it does make the event more fun.
The further you get, the more Contribution points and Defence XP you get.

The resource race is fairly simple, collect as many resources as you can in 5 minutes. If you collect a variety of resources you will receive a bonus. Resources come in different tiers which are worth more points. Higher tiers require higher skill levels, however.
There are three types of resources: logs, herbs (m) and minerals. Logs (in the north) and minerals (in the east) are easy enough: simply cut them down/mine them, and deposit them in the central area.
Herb patches are found in the west of the island. Select a colour of seed from the bag and plant 1 in each of the 5 herb patches. Once the herbs have grown, harvest them and deposit them in the central area. Free players will not be able to use the herb patches.
The more resources you hand in, the more Contribution points (and XP - Woodcutting, Mining and/or Farming) you will receive with more points and XP being giving for higher tiered resources.
Note that resources must be handed in to the central area to count towards your Contribution points. Resources in your inventory will not count.

Each time you complete an event (or fail it) you are shown this interface. It tells you the event, the Contribution points you received and any other bonuses such as XP. It also lets you replay the event, or return to Oomad Arrow in Varrock.
Note that XP rewards are capped. If you complete two events with the same good result, only one will grant you XP.
Contribution points allow you to buy rewards from Oomad Arrow. To access Oomad's shop, right-click him and choose Shop.
Players who took part in the warmup events will also have earned Contribution points.
The shop consists of 3 tiers: gold, silver and bronze. Initially you will only be able to access the bronze rewards, but you can buy access to the other tiers as you gain more Contribution points.
