To begin Heroes' Quest you need to speak to Achietties just outside the Heroes' Guild north of Taverley. Achietties will tell you that to be inducted into the Heroes' Guild, you need three items: A Master Thieves' armband, a Fire Bird Feather and a Cooked Lava eel.
Special Note: You can do Heroes' Quest parts in any order.
Finding a Heroes' Quest partner: Friends
Anyone that has finished Heroes' Quest can still be your partner during this quest, so ask your friends to see if they can help you with the candlestick part of this quest.
Finding a Heroes' Quest partner: Forums
You can also find a Heroes' Quest partner in the RuneScape forums. Just go to the Quest section and look in the Find a Heroes' Quest partner thread stuck to the top of page 1 in the quest forum. Look at the last few pages for the most recent posts to find a partner, however if you cant find anyone just log in to the forums and post your own request on that same thread and have other players contact you.
Master Thieves' Arm Band
You need to complete one of the two sections depending on which gang you are in.
Black Arm Gang
Items needed: Full Black armour. (Varrock armour shop sells black plate body. Champions Guild (upstairs) sells black full helm and legs). Note: Chain body or plateskirts or trimmed armour will not work.
Go to the Black Arm hideout in Southwest Varrock (See Map) and talk to Katrine about how to become a Master Thief. She will tell you a password, 'Four Leaf Clover'. She will also tell you about Scarface Pete and how you have to steal his candlesticks. Now you need to wear your black armour and go to Brimhaven.
Talk to Trobert in Brimhaven to get ID papers then talk to Garv and go inside Pete's mansion.
Talk to Grip: Ask him "What do my duties involve" and "Is there's anything I can do now". Grip will give you a Miscellaneous key. Give this key to your Phoenix Gang partner. Important Note: If Grip does not give you the Miscellaneous key it means that you have one in your bank. Grip will not give you another key if you already have one, so search your bank.
Go into Grips room and search the wall cupboard to lure Grip into his room. Close the door once Grip arrives. Ask your Phoenix partner to shoot through the wall to kill Grip. Once Grip is dead pick up Grip's key and use it to open the treasure room door. Search a chest to get 2 candlesticks. Keep one candlestick for yourself and give one to your partner. Return to Varrock and give your candlestick to Katrine to receive the Master Thieves' Armband.
Note: If there are no candlesticks in the chest it means that you have some in your inventory or bank. You must drop all candlesticks in your inventory or bank before you can get more from the chest. To help other Phoenix players out just lure Grip and and use Grip's key to enter the treasure room. Drop one candlestick as you no longer need it and just give one candlestick to the Phoenix player. Note: Each Phoenix player must kill Grip otherwise Straven will not accept any candlesticks.
Items needed: (Bow and arrows) or (Crossbow and bolts) or (staff and mage attack runes).
Go to the Phoenix Gang hideout in Varrock (See Map). Talk to Straven and ask him about the Master Thief's Armband. He will tell you to steal one of Pete's Candlesticks. He will tell you the password 'Gherkin' to identify that you're a Phoenix Gang member. (Straven will only tell you this password once only). Go to Brimhaven with your range or mage gear (to kill a level 22 opponent).
Get the miscellaneous key from your Black Arm partner and go to the food store and talk to Alfonse the Waiter. Ask him "Do you sell some Gherkins?" He will tell you to go talk to the cook. Speak to Charlie the Cook and tell him that you're a member of the Phoenix Gang. Also tell him that you're looking for the candlesticks and he will soon tell you about the side entrance to the mansion. .
Walk through the secret wall and follow the line shown on the map. Run past the guard dogs and use the miscellaneous key to open the next door to the Phoenix room. Stand by the window (it is shaped like a cross on the wall), wait until your partner has lured Grip then right click to attack Grip through the wall. When Grip is dead you can meet your partner outside to get your candlestick.
Take your candlestick back to Straven in Varrock and he will give you the Master Thieves' Armband.
Note: Each Phoenix player must kill Grip otherwise Straven will not accept your candlestick. To help other Black Arm players, just kill Grip again for them.
Fire Bird Feather
Items needed: Weapon, Armour, Food, Pickaxe, Ice Gloves.
Ice Gloves: To get the Ice Gloves go to northern tip of White Wolf Mountain and find a rock slide (See Heroes' Quest locations map above). Hack at the rock with your pickaxe (50 Mining required) to gain access to three ladders. Go down the southern ladder and take the south-western tunnel until you come to another ladder. (Follow the red line on the map).
Go up this ladder and then go down the eastern ladder and continue following the red line on the map. This part of the tunnel is extremely long and has ice spiders so be careful! This tunnel ends at a ladder. Go up this ladder, then go down the only other ladder. Keep walking until you get to the Ice Warriors and Queen. Go to the queen's throne and attack the Ice queen. (Tip: Stand behind her throne where she can't attack you). After you defeat her pick up the Ice gloves and teleport out.
Fire Bird Feather: Deposit all weapons and armour in your bank except the Ice Gloves. Head to Port Sarim and talk to the monks to take the ship to Entrana. Go near the law altar and head north-west to find a Fire Bird (level 2). Kill it and take its feather, making sure you are wearing your Ice Gloves.
Cooked Lava Eel
Items needed: Fishing rod, Bait, clean harralander, vial of water, Anti-dragon shield, Anti-poison potion, Dusty key (obtained during the quest).
Oily Rod Head to Port Sarim fishing store and speak to Gerrant. Ask him about catching lava eels and he says you'll need a special type of oily rod. Gerrant will give you some Blamish Snail Slime. Add a clean harralander to the vial of water and use this on the Blamish Snail Slime to make some Blamish Oil. Use the Blamish Oil on a plain Fishing rod to make an Oily fishing rod. While you are here you should buy 10 plain fish bait.
Get your Oily fishing rod, 10 fishing bait, anti-dragon shield, anti-poison potion, some decent armour and some food. Grab your Dusty key (if you have one). Now head to Taverley dungeon.
Dusty key: Follow the path around to the Black Knight's base past the Black Knights, Animated Axes, Poison Scorpions and Hill Giants. Find the Jail guard (See Map) and kill him to get a cell key. Open the jail door and talk to Velrak and he will give you a Dusty key.
Head back past the Hill Giants and Poison Scorpions and cross two bridges. Run past the Chaos Dwarves and Lesser Demons. Open the door using the Dusty key and run past the Blue Dragons until you reach a lava eel fishing spot (near the baby blue dragons). Catch a few lava eels and teleport out. Cook your lava eel on any stove. You need to successfully cook at least one eel.
Notes: If you have 70 Agility, you can go through the agility shortcut right by the dungeon entrance. You should catch a few lava eels in case you burn them. You burn less things on the Lumbridge chef's stove. Fishing can be boosted using a fishing potion or admiral pie. Cooking can be boosted with a chef's delight.
Return to Achietties with the Master Thieves' Arm Band, Cooked Lava Eel and the Fire Bird Feather to complete the quest.
