Melee

Redirected from Melee FAQ

Introduction

Melee combat is divided into three main areas: Attack Attack, Strength Strength and Defence Defence. Attack will determine your accuracy when fighting and will increase your consistency when hitting opponents. Strength will determine how hard you hit your opponent. Finally, Defence relates to how resilient you are to attacks and how often your opponent will hit you. The higher your Defence, the more likely the opponent is to miss.

Within Melee there are three weapon styles: stab, slash and crush. Certain armours are weak to different styles of attack, so it is always worth considering checking what attack style your weapon performs.

Getting Melee Experience

The type of experience you get - Strength, Defence or Attack - depends on the type of experience you have selected in the Combat Settings interface.

Defence cross.gif cross.gif tick.gif

The amount of experience you get from killing an opponent varies, and is based upon a number of things:

  • The combat level of your opponent
  • The amount of damage you performed (PvP only)

In Player versus Environment (PvE) - or Player versus Monster (PvM) as it is also known - situations you will be rewarded your xp when your opponent dies, in Player versus Player (PvP) however, you will get xp when you die. Also note that with PvP, you will only get xp for damaging another player, providing you were in the top 16 players to perform damage to that opponent. This is also capped at 50,000 xp.

When training, it may be worth considering your opponents' (player or monster) weaknesses. Certain armours are weak to different weapon styles. The main weapon styles include stab, slash and crush attacks.

For example if your opponent is wearing a light robe material, a slashing weapon such as a scimitar should have no problem tearing through the armour.

Similarly, investigate whether a puncturing stab attack could deal the most damage, or if an aggressive crush attack to smash through armour is necessary.

Training Hints and Tips

  • Before you begin training your combat ensure that you have a large stock of food in your bank. You do not want the inconvenience of stopping your training to get more food.
  • Train on monsters with higher life points, such as giants. If your combat level is high enough they will not hit you very often so you will not need a lot of food. This also works for a low combat level player who may train on lower level monsters.
  • Decide what you are training for. If you are going after easier fights for quicker experience, accept the fact you may not be as likely to get rare drops. Likewise, if you are killing for a rare drop, understand you may not be getting overly quick experience.
  • Know your chosen monsters' weaknesses and choose your weapon wisely.
  • Wear the appropriate melee gear and enchanted jewellery for combat bonuses.
