Nex is the strongest of the nihil, a race engineered by Zaros from the essence of vampyres, icyene, demons and aviansie using energy from the elder god Mah. Seeing that Nex had a surprising capacity for learning, Zaros implanted a small sliver of his own crystal form to grant her awareness. Nex has unknowingly carried this crystal within her body, and as a result is unfailingly loyal to Zaros. She has the ability to learn at an incredible pace - she picked up language in a matter of days and named herself Nex (Latin for violent death.)
Her capacity and speed of learning make her a fearsome opponent, able to learn enemy tactics and counter them with remarkable ease. The other gods fear her predominantly because of how she came into being - a completely artificial creature; their fears are akin to our own about topics like cloning, forced evolution/mutation, eugenics, etc. Zaros's intentions are for the good of all mortals, but his enemies are afraid of where all of this could lead.
God Wars Dungeon
Power defines Nex. Even the gods of Gielinor stood alert when her name was said in hushed tones all those centuries ago. Her name is chaos and oblivion personified. So powerful was she that the gods, despite all their troubles, pooled their resources to stop this force of nature in its tracks.
The battle could only end in stalemate; an unstoppable force colliding with an immovable object. Though Nex wasn't defeated, she was weakened and imprisoned, her powers blunted. But, with her strength drained of its original ferocity, Nex is still unmatched within the God Wars Dungeon, with a combat level of 220.
Nex is not alone in her prison habitat. At the four corners of her chamber stand dedicated servants, who have formed a symbolic relationship with their master. Her servants are incredibly powerful mages, each a master of their respective element. They are Fumus, breather of smoke; Umbra, caster of shadow; Cruor, drinker of blood; and Glacies, master of ice.
Nex's elemental army hide their true appearance beneath daunting, evil-looking masks, while their robes give an indication of the element they're attuned to. Nex will do all she can to protect her servants when battling deep within the confines of the Ancient Prison. They repay the favor by fighting with their lives to protect their all-powerful master. Vanquishing one mage after another, though, may severely reduce Nex's unearthly powers.
Nex is the boss of the Zaros portion of the God Wars Dungeon. She had the dubious title of being the first attackable monster over level 1000, prior to the EoC, and is currently the third most powerful monster of RuneScape, being beaten only by the Queen Black Dragon and the Kalphite King.
Nex was involved in The World Wakes, where only there you are able to talk to her peacefully. She wanted to kill Guthix for the edicts to fall just as much as Char, but they agreed with the other Zarosians accounted for, with the exception of Sliske, to let Guthix live and bargain for the return of Zaros. In the end, she hated Sliske for taking her kill.
It is absolutely possible to solo Nex, if you have full torva/ divine spirit shield and a drygore mainland it shouldn't be to difficult. If experienced, dual-wielded Drygore weapons can be used too.
Group sizes usually range from 1 to 4 players depending on levels and gear.
Most teams use 1 person in torva/tetsu as a tank and the other using dual wield drygores in elite void or malevolent+sirenic switch for damage. Alternatively, a mage-tank in Seasinger's robes can be used too.
If soloing use Divine spirit shield or Arcane spirit shield; If duo or greater use offhand Drygore.
The most common and effective way to kill Nex is magic.
The best way to kill Nex is to use magic using either full Virtus/Superior Seasinger with Virtus gloves and boots for DPSers (damage dealers), and seasinger's for the tank. The best weapons to use while killing Nex are the seismic weapon sets. Although Ascension crossbows are also a good alternative. Drygore, however, will make it harder to kill as there are mechanics that target players in melee distance (e.g: Nex's embrace darkness during shadow).
Two combat styles are now required to damage her efficiently, as she prays against both ranged and magic.
You want to start the fight overloaded with deflect magic and torment or anguish (if using ranged) active. Along with any other things such as auras and scrimshaws you may be using and other potions like prayer renewal.
1. Smoke phase (Fumus)
Be sure deflect magic is on at all times along with torment. The easiest way to kill her during smoke phase is to mage her near the entrance of the arena. If she runs of into No Escape run to the side of the + looking center staying along the outside of this area during this phase. If she grabs you and yanks you in quickly use either freedom or anticipaton. Once she is at 160,000 health she will yell Fumus don't fail me. At this point you will want to run over and kill Fumus as fast as possible. Quickly kill Fumus and prepare for the next phase.
If you are tanking during this phase be sure to keep next attention on you by using incite and provoke. Not many defensive abilities are used during this phase besides freedom/anticipation/resonance/and preparation, although it's recommended that tanks stick to off-hand weapons and save their shields for ice phase and possibly blood.
2. Shadow Phase (Umbra)
Once Nex shouts Darken my shadow; quickly switch to deflect ranged and watch out for the black shadows on the ground. Experienced DPSers may favour soul split over deflect range for the first few hits of the phase, until after she lays her first set of shadow traps. The latter can deal massive damage and even kill you if your health is not high enough. The best way to kill her during this phase is to simply release your abilities whilst paying attention to her shadow traps spawning under you every 5 attacks. Standing melee distance of her for more than 7 seconds will cause her to deal 500's+ every game tick.
Once you get her down to 120,000 LP she'll say "Umbra don't fail me". Quickly run over and kill Umbra.
If you're tanking, it's not necessary to use a shield for this phase, but try to save adrenaline for when blood phase comes. Once she shouts Umbra don't fail me run through the middle path towards Crour to keep Nex from attacking your partner(s) while they kill Umbra.
3. Blood phase (Cruor)
Once Nex shouts flood my lungs with blood switch back to Deflect Magic curse. Experienced DPSers may want to stick to soul split this phase, since the tank will provoke her onto him and thus DPSers will not receive any hits other than the ones coming from the weak reavers. Whilst she's doing her siphon move, quickly use Sunshine/Death Swiftness and drink and adrenaline potion dose to maximise damage. You do not need to kill the blood reavers she spawns, but if you're having trouble getting past this phase, attack them one or two times whilst she siphons, as each Reaver will heal her for whatever LP they have left at the time Nex siphons health from them.
When Nex calls out "I demand a blood sacrifice" she will turn someone on the team completely red. To stop her from healing over 10K health from this attack you must use the Escape ability to get out of reach as soon as you can (if meleeing or if for some reason she turns the tank red) or simply ignore it if you're standing far from her, this is why it's recommended to use range/magic.
In this phase it is imperative not to use any kind of damage over time ability (e.g: combust) as it will heal her on a 1:1 ratio. Once her health reaches 80,000 she will shout "Cruor don't fail me". At this point you will need to kill Crour.
If tanking during this phase be sure Nex doesn't turn onto your partner besides being target for a blood sacrifice. Be sure to constantly use resonance and preparation along with other defensive abilities at this point to lower the damage you take and thus the amount of LP she heals. Be sure you start using debilitate every time you can after starting this phase to slightly lower the damage Nex can do during the last parts of the fight. Experienced tanks may want to stick to their offhands to get over this phase as fast as possible, equipping their shields in preparation for ice phase once she calls for Cruor.
4. Ice phase (Glacies)
For tanks, this can be the most difficult phase. You can easily be killed if not done properly. Make sure Deflect Magic and torment/anguish are active. After killing Cruor run back to her, if she used siphon last then she will use "die now in a prison of ice", but if she uses blood sacrifice she will do "contain this!". If she yells contain this, get away from her as this attack can disable overhead prayer when hit, and stun you making you unable to eat/move/and reactivate prayers for a few seconds. If she shouts die now, in a prison of ice be sure to free your partner by attacking the stalagmites before they are hit. If you do not have anyone near you, activate freedom and eat until you reach full health or use the 'Barricade' ability. Be sure to free a imprisoned partner every time, when possible. Once she yells "Glacies don't fail" me, run over and kill Glacies as fast as possible while making sure your partner is not hit by prison.
If tanking during this phase be sure to keep your adrenaline up at max until the first prison. When imprisoned: quickly use freedom then immortality to negate all damage from the prison. Repeat for the second prison but instead of immortality use Barricade.
Experienced tanks may want to keep track of her attacks and use Anticipation in preparation for the first prison. Since you've used Anticipation, there's no need to freedom, proceed to use Immortality. Quickly reactivate your deflect magic upon revival.
For the second prison, use freedom once you're in and then barricade. Most experienced teams get it done within 2 prisons, but if your team can't, your teammates MUST free you on the third prison. Failure to do so can be fatal.
Once your partner has killed Glacies stay in melee distance and prepare for the final phase.
5. Zaros phase (Nex)
This is the final phase of the fight and you can easily be killed if not done right.
Nex will use her magic attack all the time. This powerful attack can hit over 2000+ through prayers, so it's of utmost importance that the Tank stays in melee distance as to reduce the chance of her using her magic attacks and instead of use melee, that should deal less damage than her Magic attacks.
She will alternate between deflect ranged (depending on kill) /soulsplit/and Deflect Melee during this phase, along with Turmoil activated throughout the whole phase. Make sure if meleeing, that you're not standing right in front of her or beside her as her melee attacks are also multitarget, but only from two squares away (like halberds). Standing behind her is safe, and this is especially useful if DPSers wish to use sunshine.
If tanking during this phase use all defensive abilities as much as possible and stay within melee distance to reduce damage taken. Same follows as above when she uses deflect melee: do not attack her while that is active as it will reflect back all damage that is dealt to her (only when melee tank). Barricade and resonance are great abilities during this phase. Use them as much as possible. Once she is dead quickly run out of her wrath distance to avoid being hit. Experienced tanks may want to quickly deactivate their deflect magic prayer and move back one square while at the same activating resonance. This can heal you up to 4,500 LP depending on luck, but be careful.
If you're meleeing, click or interact with your familiar to stop all attacks on her as she will deflect all damage back onto its dealer. During soulsplit and deflect ranged do as much damage as possible. Experienced DPSers may want to use damage boosting ultimates such as Sunshine and Death swiftness whilst standing near her (but not in melee distance) so the damage over time these abilities have reach her. Once she is dead she will yell "Taste my wrath" and activate the wrath curse. Quickly run out of its reach to avoid it.
Tip: Again, stay on the opposite side of Nex as the tank so you do not take melee damage.
After she's dead, grab your loot and prepare to fight her again.
All damage done to Nex and her minions was previously capped, but this cap has been raised.
All of her spells are based on the Ancient Magicks spellbook.
There are four rolls: one for charms, one for the hard clue scroll, one for the elite clue scroll, and another for the remaining drop table items.

Nex was the most powerful of Zaros' forces and remained so following Zaros' downfall. Eventually Saradomin's forces sealed Nex and the other Zarosian forces in the Ancient Prison, and a temple was built around it, guarded by Saradomin priests.
Following the ambush of Armadyl's aviantese carrying a Godsword, the armies of the God Wars Dungeon surrounded the place and began an unending battle with Bandos, Armadyl, Saradomin and Zamorak forces present.
Years later, Sliske deceived a Saradominist priest, Ashuelot Reis and claimed that he knew an ancient ritual to reawaken Guthix and stop the war. However this ritual instead reopened the prison and unleashed a weaker, yet still powerful Nex. A temporary alliance on all sides lead to the temporary resealing of the prison - which has reopened along with the rest of the prison today.
- Currently, Nex is the only monster in RuneScape who can use Ancient Curses.
- Prior to the Evolution of Combat Nex had a combat level of 1001, which was a tribute to the release date of the Ancient Prison, January 10th. Nex is now level 220.
- Nex was updated graphically with the Evolution of Combat.
- The names of the minions, Fumus, Umbra, Cruor and Glacies, are latin for smoke, shadow, blood and ice, respectively.
