This page contains advice and help on how to change your password or how to have a new one set should you forget it. For advice on how to keep your account secure please read our Security Tips page and Account Security section.
This is the quickest and most simple way to change your password and is done by logging into the RuneScape.com website and going to the Account Settings part of your account.

To change your password, please follow these steps:
1. Login to your RuneScape Account via the top right hand side of this page.
2. In the same place, under your account name, click on Account then Account Settings to access the Account Settings page.
3. Please click the link 'Click here' and an email will be sent to the email address registered to your account. 
4. A confirmation box will show up confirming that an email as been sent. If you are having trouble finding the email then please make sure to check your Spam/Junk folders as your email may have been automatically filtered. 
The message will look like this but with your unique link. Be sure to check that the link goes to https://secure.runescape.com/m=password_history/password_change.ws and nowhere else. 
5. If your account does not have an email registered to the account then the following message will appear. 
6. When you click on the link which has been provided in the email sent to you the following window will appear allowing you to change your password. 
Players who have forgotten their password can recover their account by using our email recovery process or our account recovery form.

To recover your account, please do the following:
1. Click on Login at the top right hand side of the page, then Forgotten Password .
2. When prompted, enter the registered email address or username and you will be sent an email with further instructions to recover your account.
3. The final step is to go to your email, click the link in the email we’ve sent you and then follow the instructions to set your new password.
If you don’t receive the email from us within 10 minutes, we advise you check the email address registered on the account as well as your email spam and junk filters. The email we’ve sent you expires 7 days after sending to ensure your account is as secure as possible.
