Any aspiring thief is best starting off by picking the pockets of those unaware. As a thief becomes more experienced, it will become easier for them to steal from people who are even constantly on guard, such as guards.

Completing Buyer and Cellars and subsequent Thieves' Guild capers will improve your chances of receiving better loot from the items described below. This works on marks up to those with a level 40 Thieving requirement, from which you will find that you receive less or none of that mark's least valuable loot.

It is also possible to steal two, three or four times the loot from any character that you pickpocket, depending on your Thieving and Agility levels.
