Portents

Introduction

Portents sit in your backpack and are used up automatically, providing a benefit and then removing themselves from your inventory. There are six types of portent: restoration, degradation, item protection, life, death and passage. Note that the passage portent is only available in Daemonheim.

Restoration

Restoration portents heal you for a number of life points automatically when you pass 50% of your maximum life points. Restoration portents will not be used if you are hit when you are already below 50% of your life points - it is only when you take damage that takes you from above 50% to below 50%.

Restoration portents have a Constitution level required for their use but unlike food, where the healing effect is lessened if this level is not met, the portent will not activate.

Only one portent is used at a time, however if you are healed to above 50% and then take more damage that puts you below 50% again, another portent will be activated (if you have one in your inventory).

If you have a portent of restoration and an attuned portent of restoration in your inventory, the attuned version will be used first. Similarly, if you have multiple tiers of either (or both) portents, the highest tier will be used first.

Portents of restoration, and their attuned versions, provide their healing effects after you have taken damage. As such, if you take a hit that takes them from above 50% to 0%, the portent will not be used. For example, if you have a maximum of 1000 life points, and you are on 501 when you are hit - if the damage caused is 502 you will die and the portent will not activate. If you take a hit of 500 however, you will go down to 1 life point and then the portent will activate and heal you.

Portents of restoration heal you by the following amounts:

Degradation

Portents of degradation restore a number of life points and deal a percentage of that as damage to your enemy. When your life points drop below 50% with a portent of item protection in your backpack, it will be automatically used and then deleted from your inventory.

Degradation portents have a Constitution level required for their use but unlike food, where the healing effect is lessened if this level is not met, the portent will not activate.

Portents of degradation heal you, and damage your enemy, by the following amounts:

Item Protection

Portents of item protection allow you to keep one more item when you die. When you die with a portent of item protection in your backpack, it will be automatically used and then deleted from your inventory. These portents stack with themselves and with the sign of item protection (as well as other items and prayers which have the same effect).

The maximum number of items that can be protected on death is 5 - so if you have two portents, or a sign and a portent, or a sign and prayer, etc, these will all stack. If you have 6 portents, only 2 will be used. In terms of priority, the signs and portents take last priority, so other items or prayer effects will be applied first. This item will not work in PVP areas.

Life

The portent of life will resurrect you with 25% of your base lifepoints. The effect will not apply in PvP areas, and the use of the portent has a 1 hour cooldown, shared with the portent of death, sign of death and sign of life. This cooldown only applies to in-game time and will not count down if you log off (e.g. if you have 5 minutes left when you log out, logging in again a day later will show that you still have a 5 minute cooldown).

Death

The portent of death will resurrect you with 15% of your base lifepoints while causing that same amount in damage to your enemy. The effect will not apply in PvP areas, and the use of the portent has a 1 hour cooldown, shared with the portent of life, sign of life and sign of death. This cooldown only applies to in-game time and will not count down if you log off (e.g. if you have 5 minutes left when you log out, logging in again a day later will show that you still have a 5 minute cooldown).
