To craft articles of pottery, follow the method below:
Once you get to a pottery, you will need to click on the potter's wheel in order to start.

After you click the potter's wheel you will see the pottery crafting interface. From here you can choose what you want to mold the clay into. The default selection is the Pottery category which consists of normal everyday craftable items, like a pot, bowl, etc.
Below is the pottery crafting interface. A list of the normal pottery you can craft is listed in the next section.

Urns catch scraps and offcuts while you are fishing, mining, smelting, cooking, woodcutting or killing demonic creatures, and they can be teleported away for an XP boost. To make an urn, you will need two lots of soft clay, rather than one. Take the soft clay to a potter's wheel and you will be shown the pottery crafting interface and be given the option of making your choice of urn.
On the crafting interface, choose a skill that you want your urn to be attuned to. You have a choice of cooking, fishing, mining, prayer, smelting, and woodcutting.
You will be asked to choose the quality of your urn: options include cracked, fragile, normal, strong and decorated (prayer urns are ordered according to the ash they collect: impious, accursed and infernal).
Note: The types of urns you are allowed to make is dependent on your Crafting skill level.
The quality of urn determines the range of scraps that will be caught in it. With a cracked woodcutting urn, you will gather woodchip from normal, evergreen, achey, and dead trees, amongst others; with a fragile woodcutting urn you will be able to gather woodchip from those trees AND oak, willow and teak trees, amongst others; and so on and so forth.
Once the type of urn has been chosen, click the mould button and the clay will be formed and you are ready to fire it in an oven. You will see a similar interface like the pottery interface but this one is specifically to choose what you want fired in your inventory and how many. The default option is to fire all of the urns currently in your inventory.
Your last task is to add a rune to the urn, so that it is "activated" - providing 1 XP in the skill the urn is related to - and bound to you and can later be teleported to Ernie, the urn lover in Varrock, so he can do whatever sinister thing he does with them. The rune required is different for each pot:
Once you add the rune to the urn, the urn is now complete. With it in your inventory, you can train your related skills as normal and slowly fill the urn with scraps and offcuts (prayer urns will automatically pick up ashes when they are dropped by demonic creatures). You can check how full your urn is at any time by right-clicking on it. Once the urn is full, right-click and teleport it to Ernie to get your XP prize in the skill type of your urn.
Note: You cannot fill two urns in the same skill at the same time. Once you have started filling an urn, you must fill it completely before starting another in that skill type. You may have as many urns as you like in your inventory while skilling, but only one will fill up at once. If you have different levels of the same skill type of urn - for example, a cracked mining urn and a decorated mining urn - then the higher level urn will fill up first; in the example's case, the decorated urn would fill up before the cracked urn (as long as the ore being collected is appropriate for both urns). Examine the urn to find out what level of ore it will collect.
Once you have 10 full urns in the same skill, these must be teleported before you can start collecting from any other urns in that skill. So, you cannot have 10 full decorated mining urns and then start collecting from a strong mining urn.
The only tradeable versions of urns are those that have been fired, but have NOT had a rune attached.
Urns cannot be used with any form of XP-boosting equipment.
