Examine A stick made for poking - violent poking. / The tip is dripping with poison.
Weight 2.2kg

The Primal spear is only obtainable as a drop from World-gorger Shukarhazh (107 Dungeoneering required) and requires 99 Attack to wield. As its tier implies, it is the strongest of spears.

Spears have the "slow" attack speed, the same speed as longswords, for example. All spears may be poisoned. Spears all have access to all three melee attack styles: stab, slash, and crush, allowing them to hit any monster's weakness - provided you know what that is.

Spears have controlled and defensive attack styles, and are currently incompatible with any of the melee class rings. Class rings aside, spears can inflict the most amount of damage out of melee weapons, if used right, making them a good melee backup, if you are not using a melee class ring, I.E: if melee is not your primary mode of attack.

Benefits

Spears can not get damaging benefits from melee class rings, but their inherent good all-around stats and ability to use all three melee styles allows them to still be potent weapons, if the user knows how to use them right. Hitting a monster's weakness is spears' specialty and purpose. Lists of commonly encountered enemies weak to what below.

Stab:

  • Mysterious shades
  • Ice spiders
  • Icefiends
  • Ice warriors
  • Trolls
  • Stalker bosses
  • Behemoth bosses (with the exception of Gluttonous behemoth)
  • Kal'Gerion bosses (with the exception of To'Kash the Bloodchiller)
  • Mage bosses
  • Hobgoblins
  • Hill Giants
  • Guard dogs
  • Rats
  • Bats
  • Brutes (includes Rammernaut)
  • Necromancers (also weak to slash, but stab bonuses on spear outweigh it)
  • Hellhounds
  • Demons
  • Dragons
  • Ramokee Skinweavers
  • Ramokee Stormbringers
  • Ramokee Deathslingers (may also be weak to slash)
  • Forgotten mages (also weak to slash, but stab bonuses on the spear outweigh it)
  • Forgotten rangers (also weak to slash, but stab bonuses on the spear oughtweigh it)
  • Forgotten warriors (ones in chainbodies/plateskirts, though magic is recommended on higher-tier ones)

Slash:

  • Zombies
  • Ghosts
  • Forgotten mages
  • Necromancers (defenses similar to Forgotten mages)
  • Forgotten mages (if using a high slash bonus weapon, not spear)
  • Forgotten rangers (if using a high slash bonus weapon, not spear)
  • Animated pickaxes
  • Majority of stab-weak creatures can also be dealt with a high slash bonus, until they are higher-tier and their stats become highly developed.

Crush:

Trivia

While there are a great many monsters vulnerable to stab, it should be remembered that in floors 30+, the most common monster content is zombies and skeletons, which is why 2-handed swords are arguably the most popular weapon group.

The great majority of monsters in dungeons that are weak to slash and crush, are also *extremely* vulnerable to magic. The monsters with high magic defense tend to be weak to stab, making a spear good choice for a mage's backup weapon.
