Sacred metal fragments are small pieces of metal dropped at various points during The Bird and the Beast event.

Fragments are dropped under the following circumstances:

  • You kill a bodyguard.
  • You kill an ambusher of any type.
  • A convoy despawns after suffering maximum damage.
  • A building is prevented from being finished, or a completed building is destroyed.
  • If you are gathering at convoy when it despawns.
  • When a building is completed.
  • When a PvP weapon is depleted.

The sacred metal fragments are used in combination with a weapon piece (aviansie or orkish shields component, aviansie or orkish throwing star/axe component, aviansie or orkish wands component, aviansie or orkish claw component) to make a number of Cosmetic Overrides.

To make a cosmetic override, right-click the weapon part and choose 'Complete' with 1000 sacred metal fragments in your inventory. You will receive no item, nor XP for this. Instead you will unlock a cosmetic override in the Avatar Customisation interface.

The overrides you can make are:

Previously the fragments were dropped during The Battle of Lumbridge event and were used combination with a weapon piece (icyenic or infernal orbs, icyenic or infernal warhammer heads, icyenic or infernal bowstaves) to make several cosmetic overrides (icyenic/infernal bow, icyenic/infernal staff, icyenic/infernal greathammer).

Fragments from the Battle of Lumbridge can not be used to make items in The Bird and the Beast. This was confirmed by Mod Moltare in a livestream who indicated that metal fragments will only affect the world event they are released with.
