Hmm..Would Scabarites be considered "Less prominent" or "Thought to be extinct"? I'm not exactly sure of the lore concerning whether they were known of before Contact!. ~Dontdothedew 19-Feb-2012 00:41 GMT Decided to go with less prominent. Move the link if it's incorrect. I don't know if I should just unilaterally DECLARE a species of creature a "race" or not. I've worked on Herblore Habitat and Jadinkos for a couple of months, and sort of treated them like a race. If people agree they qualify, they'd obviously fall under "less prominent." What would I need to do to "elevate" them to racial status besides add a link to their main Jadinkos page to this article? Something about adding a category to all of their entries maybe?...Phthartic 21-Feb-2012 23:25 GMT
I was thinking about that myself. What defines a race in this article? Is it simply an identifiable group of individuals with a similar planar or genetic origin? Do they have to display some form of societal organization, be sentient, or possible to communicate with or attack? Or should we simply vote in questionable entries in a case by case basis?
Personally, I think there's a line we should draw, although I'm not sure where to draw it or how to define it. Things like Jadinkos, Dragons, Penance, and Pests should count as races in my opinion (although Dragons could possibly be tied into the Dragonkin article, seeing as they were created in an attempt to continue the Dragonkin's line). However, if you put in Dragons, you may be able to justify putting in spiders and if you put in Jadinkos, you may be able to justify adding birds, neither of which should be in this article (again, in my opinion). I'd propose (to start off) that to be included in this article, a race must be clearly different from other races, have multiple kinds of members of the race, have some sort of backstory. That would eliminate relatively featureless races like wolves, spiders, various hunter creatures, and one offs like the Phoenix. Thoughts? ~DontdothedewContrib 24-Feb-2012 22:11 GMT
(Tabbed comments in for readability). I think we should create a new page listing the various Species of RuneScape here (a pure A-Z list). We can then limit 'Races of RuneScape' to intelligent beings, which we define as being able to communicate with the player. Dragons are incapable of communication and so would be a species only. Dragonkin on the other hand can talk to the player. This leaves only Ghosts, Camels and Cats. Personally I would say that ghosts are ghosts of a certain race (human ghost etc.) anyway. Cats and Camels are a bit of a debatable point. and should probably be listed under a misc section with some notes on intelligence. Sound good? We can still put 'Jadinko' in the MonsterInfo etc. King Runite1talkcontribs 24-Feb-2012 22:34 GMT
Makes sense to me. I'm happy as long as we get something down, to be honest. Limiting it to intelligent beings is quite helpful, it shortens the list of races that can be listed here considerably. ~DontdothedewContrib 25-Feb-2012 01:16 GMT~
