The lava is rising.

Within TzHaar lies the Elder Kiln where the TzHaar claim they were born. Now used by the TokHaar to slake their thirsts for battle, the Elder Kiln is no longer a sacred place for the TzHaar but a battleground.

The TokHaar Fight Kiln is a fast-paced, single-player boss encounter, with no limits and no restrictions. Are you strong enough to withstand waves of creatures? Do you have what it takes to last to the very end and claim the mark of a survivor?

The Kiln is found in the north-east of TzHaar City. From the entrance, head North to the main plaza, and take the East tunnel. The entrance to the Kiln is at the end of this tunnel.

You will be given the choice of heading directly to the Kiln, alternatively you can make your way through the tunnels.

Note that you will only be permitted to enter once the Elder Kiln quest has been completed.


Requirements

Recommended Items

Note
If you happen to die in the Fight Kiln, you will retain all items; however, any lost arrows or runes will not be refunded, so choose your approach/weapons effectively.


If you wish to make it all the way to the boss, a high combat level, with combat stats exceeding 90 recommended. High prayer level with ability to use high level curses recommended. High level armour, resources and weaponry recommended.

A pickaxe would also be recommended.

As many of the creatures within the Kiln are resistant to certain types of damage, it is advised that you do not come equipped for just one type of combat style.

Note that you will be unable to use a dwarf multicannon here.

Saving Progress

As the Fight Kiln can take some time to fight your way through, you are able to save your progress at the end of an attack wave, in case you need to log out of the game for any reason. To do this, click on the logout button once so the game knows you wish to take a break. You will then automatically be logged out after all enemies in the current wave have been defeated. When you log back in, you will begin again on whatever the next wave would have been. If you manage to log yourself out before defeating all enemies on the current wave (i.e. by avoiding any combat for 10 seconds then logging out) you will have to start over on whatever wave you logged out on.

Though there is a slight pause between waves, be advised that it can be risky to use this progress saving feature. You may not have time to activate the appropriate protection prayer on logging back in (though quick prayers may help here) so use it wisely.


I will Survive

Surviving the Kiln is going to be tough, and is certainly not for the unprepared.

Creatures in the Kiln will resist damage if you’re attacking them using a style they’re not weak to. I.e. if you attack a mage with Melee or Magic, the damage you deal will be significantly reduced.

To make matters worse, the Kiln slowly fills with lava as the waves progress. As this happens, the area available to you for fighting shrinks and there are fewer rocky outcrops for you to hide behind.

It's not all doom and gloom however. Every two waves, various crystals will spawn in the centre of the room. These crystals have unique properties and will help you withstand that bit more punishment.

Note that crystals can only be used during the minigame, and they cannot be used while the effects of another crystal are active. They will disappear from your inventory should you leave the Kiln.


It'll be a Long Fight

There are many waves in the Fight Kiln and every wave should be considered harder and more dangerous than the wave before. It is worth noting that having your sound and effects on will be beneficial, as there are noises to tell you that you are passing onto the next wave.

Most monsters in the cave have a unique form of attack which is intended to make your job even harder, so plan well on what to kill first.

The TokHaar-Hur are Melee fighters and, although relatively weak, can attack en-masse. Try trapping them behind rocks to make their numbers more manageable.

Ranged attacks are what the TokHaar Xil do best, throwing their TokTz-Xil-Ul your way.

Whatever approach, these should not be underestimated. They use Melee and Ranged attacks, with the Ranged attacks being very powerful and dangerous. Make killing Tok-Xils your next priority; in later rounds they can kill you without much effort with their Ranged attacks.

Using Magic attacks, the Mej can hit hard. Get in close and dispatch them before they can do too much damage. For larger groups, try to separate them before you attack.

With their toughened outer shell, TokHaar-Ket-Dill must first be weakened using a pickaxe (Rune or higher) to chip away at their defences. However, unlike their TzHaar counterparts, the TokHaar-Ket-Dill can be attacked in any way once their outer shell has been removed.

This is where you will be thanking your Prayer potions and any Prayer-boosting equipment. Ket-Zek will have no trouble defeating the strongest fighter in a few hits. However, as big and dangerous as Ket-Zek is, if you are using Magic or Ranged, simply put Protect from Magic on and attack from a distance. If you are meleeing you are in for a hard fight; Ket-Zek will hit incredibly hard with melee, so try to change your Prayers effectively and hit as soon as you can to defeat him.

A dangerous melee fighter but a slow-mover, which should make it relatively simple to kill him. Yt-Mejkot is very big and you will find he can get stuck on rocks quite easily, making the task of killing him that little bit easier.

As with other Melee-based TokHaar, the TokHaar-Ket are susceptible to becoming trapped on the rocks scattered around the Kiln's edges.
TokHaar-Jad ( Level 158 | No weakness )

One of the toughest monsters in RuneScape. Make no mistake, Jad will have no trouble killing you in two hits if you are not prepared for the fight. TokHaar-Jad will use all forms of attack (Ranged, Magic and melee) against you.


Har-Aken ( Level 160 | No weakness )

Har-Aken is a huge beast that lives within the lava. His long tentacles have claimed many challengers whose shapes have been added to the Kiln.

To defeat Har-Aken you must do as much damage as you can to his head, when you are given the chance, of course. Before he leaves the safety of the lava, his tentacles will strike at you from around the edges of the arena. Dispatch them quickly and Har-Aken will rise from the lava again to allow you to deal damage to him rather than his extremities.

Note that the tentacles come in two forms: Magic and Ranged. As with the other TokHaar in the Kiln, you deal the most effective damage by playing on their weaknesses.

Development History

According to the Behind the Scenes the monsters are TokHaar and one wave was planned to be two TzTok-Jads (Jads) simultaneously and the final wave to be even tougher still.

It was planned to be designed such that "players with any combat stats lower than 90 will find progress almost impossible, and players need all the overloads, curses, potion flasks, mega food and top-end combat gear they can muster."[1]
