Transportation - Introduction

Navigation: RuneScape Wiki >> Game Guide >> Transportation >> Transportation - Introduction

RuneScape is a forever expanding world, so, it is quite likely that during your travels you've already come across the problem of wanting to navigate great distances in the shortest amount of time.

This guide lists the many ways you can travel throughout RuneScape while saving valuable time by avoiding excessively long walks.

The transportation icons on your minimap quickly identify the key locations. However, items such as jewellery and quest items will not be displayed as they don't require you to be in any particular location for their use.

Travelling on Foot

If you wish to move around quickly around the world of RuneScape, you can set your character to run for as long as they have sufficient energy remaining. This feature can be turned on through the option screen, by holding the 'CTRL' key on your keyboard before clicking where you wish them to move, or by clicking the run energy status globe next to your minimap.

The higher the level of Agility you have, the faster your energy will recover, effectively letting you run for longer. Players with very high levels of Agility will find that they can move reasonably quickly around the world of RuneScape. This effect is in place on member and non-member servers.

The more weight you carry, the faster your energy will be drained while running. Thus, light weight gear such as robes and the Boots of Lightness are recommended attire if you are planning on running long distances. If you have the Agility Clothes or Wicked Robes, these help a bunch too. As does one of the pools in Oo'glog after quest: As a First Resort....

You can check your run energy by clicking on the spanner icon at the bottom of your player interface, or by looking at the run energy status globe to the right of your minimap.

Members may also restore their energy by these methods:

Signposts

Around RuneScape there are various signposts to help you find your way. These signposts will point to useful locations nearby and give you a rough direction of travel.

Hover over an arrow to see what lies in that direction. Note that these directions are not 'as the crow flies' but along the paths that the arrows point toward.

Signposts also show a crest which represents the area that the sign is pointing to. In the sign to the left, the crests are for Burthorpe and Taverley respectively.

The crests are as follows:

Stepping stones

Gnomes around the world delight at travel, but, they simply hate having to walk everywhere. Therefore, they have developed a series of shortcuts. These are fairly simple to negotiate for most gnomes, even fun, but for humans they often pose more of a challenge. However, should they succeed, a lot of walking time will be saved.

You will find such shortcuts spread throughout the world, with their details found in the Agility skill guide. The in-game skill guide also lists the shortcuts only accessible at specific Agility levels, for ease of reference during play.
