Vorago chathead

Beneath the Asgarnian landscape lies a creature called Vorago. Unlike the living rock creatures, Vorago is both the earth and the land and can control it rather than simply being it. For those who are strong enough, and worthy, Vorago will choose a form that can be fought.

Long ago he was defeated by the powerful Maul of Omens which he now keeps in his body. If you can recover and reassemble this weapon he may be defeated, but never destroyed, and will simply reform in new earth.

In order to challenge Vorago, you will need to start an instance. The cost for this is 1 million coins. Once paid, you will climb down a rope into the entrance room which you must navigate to speak to Vorago. For those wanting to play in a non-instanced fight, anyone may join this battle (as long as everyone passes Vorago's test) at no cost, however only one non-instanced battle may take place in each world at any one time.

You must get Vorago to accept you as a challenger before you will be able to fight him. All players who want to take part in the fight will need to do this or they will not be taken to the fight with you when you challenge Vorago.

Fighting Vorago

Normal Mode

The Borehole
The Borehole

After challenging Vorago there is an initial test to show your worth. All players wanting to take part will have to soak at hit of 50,000, or 70,000 in hard mode, split across them (in Legacy mode these values are divided by 10). If anyone dies, the group failed and the fight won't begin. If you all survive, the damage is applied as you are taken to phase 1 where the boss shortly jumps down into to begin the fight.

After this stage, the fight begins proper.

There are 5 phases to this fight, each taking part in a different room. These rooms are stacked on top of each other and progress through them will be when Vorago caves in the floor causing all players to fall through to the next room.

Vorago has a number of moves that he will use throughout each phase, but some special moves are only used in certain rooms.

  • Melee attack - Vorago's standard melee attack. Damage can be shared between players within range of it.
  • Magic attack - Vorago's standard magic attack. He will always target the furthest player with this move, but damage can be shared between multiple players if any are standing close to the target.
  • AoE drain - If Vorago hasn't been able to attack for some time, he will drain all the run energy of his main target and damage them heavily.
  • AoE stack - If a player has been standing under the boss for some time they will take significant damage. If the person getting hit is Vorago's primary target they will also be stunned for a while.

At the end of each phase (except for phase 5), Vorago will perform the following two moves:

  • Jump smash - Vorago will pick a random zone in the room to jump to. There will be a shadow warning on the ground that will show where he is heading for. Anyone within this area will be damaged by the lowest of either half of their life points or a number dependant on how close they were to Vorago. He will perform this attack 3 times.
  • Floor fall - As the jump smash concludes the floor gives way. All players should then fall through the floor and into the next room (this doesn't damage you). Shortly after Vorago will crash down in the centre of the room and begin the next phase.

Normal:Phase 1

Borehole phase 1 room
Borehole phase 1 room

The start of phase will see all players who are taking part fall through to the level. Vorago will then jump down.

You'll want to look out for the following attacks which he will use throughout this phase, in addition to the 4 main attacks:

  • Ranged bomb - This attack fires a red projectile which will continue to chase it's target. It cannot be avoided and and will deal increasing damage when more players are caught in the blast and its surrounding area.
  • Tank climb - To end phase 1 you must move Vorago into the top left area of the room and position him below a ledge. Another player must climb around the map to get to this ledge - where they'll see a jump option. That player can then leap onto the boss, grapple a weapon piece out of him and jump down safely.

Normal:Phase 2

Borehole phase 2 room
Borehole phase 2 room

The start of phase will see all players who are taking part fall through to the level. Vorago will then jump down.

You'll want to look out for the following attacks which he will use throughout this phase, in addition to the 4 main attacks:

  • Ranged bomb
  • DoT Melee - A Damage Over Time (DoT) effect is applied to the target player, dealing increased damage when closer to Vorago. This attack negates defensive abilities and the DoT is reapplied 5 times over the course of the move.
  • Player link - For every 10 players 1 is "linked". Any damage or abilities done to Vorago during this time (10 seconds) will instead get applied to the linked players.
  • Attraction forces - During the player link attack Vorago will add an attraction force to a random zone in the room (provided there isn't one out already and that then weapon piece hasn't been obtained). Any player can click the attraction and if Vorago is close enough it will fire at him. When 3 attraction forces have hit the boss he'll be vulnerable and players will be able to "Bring him down".
  • Bring him down! - After the attraction forces destabilises Vorago, players must continually click on Vorago to channel enough energy to pull him down whilst taking residual damage. Once downed the party must deal enough damage in a short space of time to loosen the weapon piece. Succeed twice to obtain the weapon piece and proceed to phase 3.

Normal:Phase 3

Borehole phase 3 room
Borehole phase 3 room

The start of phase will see all players who are taking part fall through to the level. Vorago will then jump down.

You'll want to look out for the following attacks which he will use throughout this phase, in addition to the 4 main attacks:

  • DoT Melee
  • Player link
  • Twins - This attack is rotated in every fifth week. Vorago becomes immune to all attacks and spawns two identical scopulus monsters. Which will move closer to one another if not distracted by attacks. The closer the twins are to one another, the more dangerous they become. They attack with melee Area of Effect (AoE) attacks, striking their main target and anyone who is adjacent to them. Their effectiveness scales depending on their proximity to one another. When one twin is defeated, the other becomes enraged and powers up significantly. Upon the defeat of both twins the battle will advance to phase 4.
  • Ceiling collapse - This attack is rotated in every fifth week. Vorago periodically collapses the ceiling, dealing damage to any player caught in the rock slide and blocking part of the room. He'll continue to collapse the ceiling until only 2 areas are left clear, although debris can be cleared at the cost of taking damage. After dealing enough damage to Vorago, the battle will advance to phase 4.
  • Ranged monsters - This attack is rotated in every fifth week. Vorago will fire a tunnelling projectile that will explode and spawn vitalis monsters. Each attack can spawn a maximum of 5 monsters, which is reduced for each player standing in the impact zone, at the cost of taking some damage. A maximum of 15 monsters can be added at a time to the room. After dealing enough damage to Vorago, the battle will advance to phase 4.
  • Green bomb - This attack is rotated in every fifth week. Vorago will throw a green bomb which will hit the floor, covering this portion of the room in a gas cloud which will remain for the entire phase. Anyone standing in the cloud will find their run energy and adrenaline will begin to drain. You will be drained for higher amounts if you have been inside the cloud for too long. The bomb will bounce from player to player 4 times causing damage on impact. If a player is not standing adjacent to another player the bomb will not bounce and instead will do very high damage to targeted player. If you have already been hit by the bomb, and are hit again, you will take more damage.
  • Team split - This attack is rotated in every fifth week. Vorago will assign members of the team either red or green and this can change every time. When you are given a color you must run inside of the 2x2 box that is outlined in your teams color. If you do not get into the box in time you will be hit 8000.

Normal:Phase 4

Borehole phase 4 room
Borehole phase 4 room

The start of phase will see all players who are taking part fall through to the level. Vorago will then jump down.

You'll want to look out for the following attacks which he will use throughout this phase, in addition to the 4 main attacks:

  • DoT Melee
  • Player link
  • Ceiling collapse
  • Ranged adds
  • Green bomb
  • Waterfall - Vorago charges up an explosion attack that will deal incredible damage to everyone who does not make it safely behind the waterfall that appears in one corner of the battlefield. Defensive abilities are negated by this attack. The only way to avoid damage is to make it to the waterfall. After three of these attacks, the final weapon piece is released from Vorago's body and this attack is removed from his rotation. From this point on, dealing enough damage to Vorago causes the battle to advance to phase 5.
  • Stone clones - For every 5 players, 1 stone clone is spawned. Stone clones use the same damage type as the player it was spawned against. A clone cannot be spawned from Vorago's current target. Only the player that the clone is a copy of can attack it - however if they defeat it they can go on to help other players defeat their clones.

Normal:Phase 5

Borehole phase 5 room
Borehole phase 5 room

The start of phase will see all players who are taking part fall through to the level. Vorago will then jump down.

You'll want to look out for the following attacks which he will use throughout this phase, in addition to the 4 main attacks:

  • Ranged bomb
  • DoT Melee
  • Player link
  • Green bomb
  • Weapon DoT - If a player is holding any pieces of the Maul of Omens they will continue to take damage from them until it is assembled into the Maul of Omens.
  • Tug O' War - The more damage that Vorago does to the players, the further left he will move, pushing players backwards as he does so. If he manages to push all of you to the far end of the room, you will die outright.

The more damage you do to Vorago, the further right he will move, becoming more dangerous as he is forced back.
  • Finish Him! - Pushing Vorago all the way to the far right of the platform he won't be able to be pushed anymore and whoever has the finished Maul of Omens can click it to finish him.

Hard Mode

For players looking for more of a challenge, the hard mode option exists. This mode will increase the difficulty of the fight.

Hard mode costs 1,000,000 coins and can only be initiated by players who have personally killed Vorago with the Maul of Omens in each of 5 different weekly combinations can start hard mode. Anyone can join a hard mode fight.

Players who manage to defeat Vorago in hard mode get an increased drop chance on the items he can drop. The player who kills Vorago during hard mode with the Maul of Omens will get a title.

General Changes

The first change is at the start of the fight. In hard mode the initial damage check is increased to 75,000 life points. Currently the minimum amount of players required to enter a fight is 6 (this may change when higher tier armour is released).

A second rather important change is that all the helpful messages which appear on screen - e.g. the message stating that Vorago has performed his ranged bomb attack - will no longer show. You must now look out for when this happens by paying extra attention to the battle. Players must know the timing of certain attacks or chance attacking during the player link attack.

The player link attack also links to yourself. Any damage you deal to Vorago during this attack will be dealt to yourself (as well as spread to the other players who have been linked via the conventional attack).

At the end of each phase, Vorago does his usual stomp attack, however this will deal damage to your familiar as well as yourself. This can kill your familiar easily in one attack, so be prepared. Players should withdraw from their yak at the end of each phase, ensuring they have a full inventory if they do lose their yak as there will be no time to loot the items left on the ground.

Vorago will also send two blue bombs at a time, regardless of how small the team is.

Hard:Phase 1

  • Ranged bomb - Instantly as players drop down into the arena, a red bomb will be sent after each player. This can easily one hit KO anyone so players must spread out.
  • Tank climb - Vorago can drag the player climbing around the arena back down and the player must then climb again. This can only happen if Vorago is in range of the player, hence Vorago must be lured out of range. This lure should be done in normal mode regardless to prevent the climber from getting attacked by the bomb attacks.

Hard:Phase 2

  • DoT Melee - This attack will do increased damage. If you are already taking a bleed, it will hit 7.5k damage instead of 4.5k. This increases the importance to avoid these attacks by having players use the ability provoke and also using freedom.
  • Bring him down! - To release the weapon piece, there is a shorter amount of time to do the required damage to Vorago. This can be tricky in a smaller team, especially if players are not good at dealing fast DPS.

Hard:Phase 3

The first thing to note is that all possible phase 5 rotations will take place. The order that these rotations appear are the following

  • Ceiling collapse - The damage taken to remove a boulder is doubled (from 4k to 8k). This can still be reduced and blocked via defensive abilities. Boulders also will not remain from 3rd phase to 4th.
  • Twins - Three Scopulus (Scopuli) will spawn instead of two. They will still enrage eachother when one is killed.
  • Ranged monsters - There will be 7 spawns instead of the usual 5. This means at least 7 players must stand on the spawn instead of 5. This shouldn't be too difficult as hard mode really requires a larger team. The DoT attack will do increased damage. If you are already taking a bleed, it will hit 7.5k damage instead of 4.5k. This increases the importance to avoid these attacks by having players use the ability provoke and also using freedom.
  • Green bomb - No change, other than what's stated in general changes.
  • "Team split" - Deals increased damage and has a smaller safe area

Hard:Phase 4

The 4th phase rotation will depend on the current week. If normal mode is spawning Vitalis, hard mode will spawn Vitalis etc.

  • Waterfall - The delay before the waterfall attack is fired is shortened. This means players must be faster when running to hide behind the waterfall. The Surge ability can be useful here.
  • Stone clones - More clones will be spawned in comparison to normal mode.
  • DoT Melee - This attack will do increased damage. If you are already taking a bleed, it will hit 7.5k damage instead of 4.5k. This increases the importance to avoid these attacks by having players use the ability provoke and also using freedom.

Hard:Phase 5

This phase is easily the hardest phase of a Vorago hard mode kill. The last point playing a pivotal role in this. This phase is where most teams will lose the kill.

On this phase, Vorago will use the current week's rotation and the previous. For example if Vorago is currently using the Green Bomb rotation on normal mode, it will spawn the Green bomb and Ranged monsters on the last phase. (The vorago week order is as follows: (Twins > Ranged monsters > Green Bomb > Ceiling collapse). Team split week uses its current week twice instead of previous week. Everything else follows the order mentioned before.

  • DoT Melee - Vorago will not use the DoT Melee attack, it is replaced by the previous week's rotation's special move as stated in the previous bullet point.
  • Tug O' War - Players will have to do more damage to push Vorago back one space.

Drop Table

For defeating Vorago, five people, picked from a list of fifteen, will receive drops from the table below. Three players from each phase are chosen: the player who acted as a tank (person who Vorago looked when phase ended), the bomb tank, and the player who performed the most damage. If one (or neither) of these players survive until the end of the fight (or have left), one of the other players who took part will be chosen. It is then randomly decided which of these three players will receive the drop. It is possible, but rare, that one person could get all five drops.

There are three rolls for items, one for the wand or the singularity, another for the summoning stone, and a third for the remaining drops.
