A Business in Trouble
You’ll need the highest quality ore: two copper and two tin. Doric gets this ore from very specific locations, and he will hand you a Mining sites map to detail their locations. You will need to navigate to these locations to gain the high-quality ore, preferably using the lodestone network to save time.
The mining sites are in the following locations:
- The Dwarven Mine (travel to the Dwarven Mine east of Doric’s smith, and go down the ladder. The mining site is south-east of that ladder)
- Rimmington mine (north of Rimmington)
- South-west Varrock mine (west of the Varrock lodestone)
- South-east Varrock mine (east of the Varrock lodestone)
Successfully mine copper or tin from these locations and you will unleash Living rock brawlers with a combat level of 2. You will need to defeat four of these creatures, one in each of the mining locations.
They are more susceptible to crush damage, so you might want to bring a weapon with a strong crush attack, like a Bronze warhammer.
The brawlers drop High-quality copper ore and High-quality tin ore that, when picked up, will automatically be stored in your Ore bag. The brawlers in the Varrock mining sites will drop a broken anvil amulet and a wizard's diary, oddly enough.
At the Rimmington mining site, you will see a devious pair of the Dark Wizard Elijah and a Concealed dwarf talking about the rocks. Elijah will cast a spell on the rocks and the two of them teleport away.
Once you have a full ore bag (right-click and ‘check’ the bag to find out how many ores you have) you can return to Doric, in his smith east of Taverley.
Right-click the ore bag and select ‘Withdraw’ to gain the 2 tin and 2 copper. You will then need to use them on Doric’s furnace (no other furnace will do). Clicking on the resulting ‘High quality bronze’ option that appears on the production screen will produce two High-quality bronze bars.
You should take the bronze bars to the anvil at the back of Doric’s smith. Again, only Doric’s anvil will work here. Use the bronze bars on the anvil, and you will have the opportunity to make a High-quality bronze dagger and a High-quality bronze sword. Make one of each, and return to Doric.
You will need to approach Aksel, at the entrance of the workshop. Choose the ‘Doric sent me here with these weapons’ option and Aksel will finish the blades in exchange for a progress report from Sten, who manages the coal trucks in the basement of the workshop.
Travel to the east end of the workshop and down the stairs to meet Sten. He will hand you the progress report. Take this to Aksel on the ground floor of the workshop and the blades will be returned.
Your next stop is Squire Cerlyn. To get to Falador, travel south from Doric’s smith – the castle is in the centre of the city. Squire Cerlyn is in the first room on the right, on the ground floor. Talk to Cerlyn and he'll direct you to Sir Amik Varze, who is doing a busienss deal with an impostor. Turns out that the impostor was Boric, Doric's son!
You will travel with Boric to Doric’s smith, where they will fall to arguing. You must guide the conversation away from conflict and towards resolution.
Dialogue options you should pick include:
- Boric, tell Doric about your graduation
- Doric, tell Boric why you sent him to Keldagrim
- Boric, tell Doric why you wanted to stay here
- Doric, tell Boric what you hoped sending him away would teach him
- Boric, tell Doric what you thought when Doric sent you away
- Doric, tell Boric what you want Boric’s future to be
Having brought the family back together, talk to Doric. You will be asked to smith three items: an ornamental platebody, an ornamental chainbody and a shop sign. You must smith these on the anvil in Doric’s smith. Boric will provide you with the high-quality bronze bars you need.
Once you have smithed these items, you should hand them to Doric. He will then direct you downstairs to clear the workshop.
Travel down the stairs that wind underground from the north side of Doric’s smith, and mine the rubble that covers the minecart track (you will receive 100 Mining XP for clearing the blockage).
Go back upstairs and speak to Doric to complete the quest and, if you like, get some extra tasks to help the business.

The adventurer finds that Doric's life is in ruins since his business has been ruined. Nurmof usually sends Doric his pickaxe order but this week, he didn't and Doric is worried since Nurmof was a very loyal customer for him and that Nurmof isn't the only one to stop sending orders to him. The adventurer volunteers to help him, which pleases Doric. Doric has been a smith for decades but over the last couple of weeks, the number of orders for him had fallen and that his new customers had soon stopped ordering from him. Not only that, his son Boric had finished his studies at Keldagrim but has not returned home yet. Doric is too old to look for his son right now since he has only one customer left: Sir Amik Varze of the White Knights in Falador.
He/she suggests that Doric smith some of his finest items to send to Sir Amik to increase his reputation, which he sees as a good idea. Doric has run out of materials lately so to smith his items, he needs two tin ore and copper ore. However, he needs high-quality copper ore and high-quality tin ore instead so he gives him/her an ore bag and gives him/her a mining sites map where the ore is located at. When the adventurer asks him who he suspects is stealing his business, Doric thinks that some of the dwarves in the nearby mine who would love to steal his business away from him. Doric can't go to get the ore since he has been too worried about Boric to think about mining.
At the Dwarven Mine, the adventurer attempts to mine ore but is attacked by a Living rock brawler. He/she notices that the brawler is partly made of ore and defeats it. The brawler drops the high-quality ore and the adventurer puts it in his/her ore bag. At the Varrock mining site near the Champions' Guild, the adventurer encounters another living rock brawler and defeats it, which drops the ore needed and finds a strange amulet, which has an anvil attached to it but is broken. The adventurer wonders if there is a connection between the amulet and the creatures. At the eastern Varrock site, the adventurer finds another brawler and defeats it. It drops the high-quality ore and a wizard's diary, which belonged to a wizard who worked together with another dwarf to ruin Doric's business.
At the Rimmington Mine, the adventurer sees a concealed dwarf and the Dark Wizard Elijah. The dwarf asks him if the spell makes sure that no one can obtain the ore, with Elijah assuring him that the spell will make sure that the person who triggered the living rock brawlers would be lucky to even make it out alive. The dwarf is shocked since he didn't want anyone to be killed but Elijah told him that it was not his fault since the dwarf told him to have them dealt with. Elijah tells him that it is too late anyway so he casts a spell on the rocks. The dwarf suddenly senses that someone was eavesdropping on them while Elijah thinks that it is just part of his imagination. The dwarf tells him to teleport them out of the mine quickly. The adventurer laters mines the rocks and defeats the last brawler to obtain the high-quality ore.
The adventurer returns to Doric and tells him about Elijah casting some sort of spell on the rocks which made them come alive and that the adventurer obtained the diary which belonged to the dark wizard. Doric reads through the diary quickly and is confused on why the dwarf and the wizard wanted to target him in the first place and why they wanted to stop him from getting some ore. The adventurer tells him that he/she manages to obtain the high-quality ore and gives it to Doric and also shows the broken amulet to him, which Doric recognised by its design as a Gofannon amulet. The amulet is said to allow the wearer to focus more when training. Doric thinks that he could fix the amulet once he takes care of all his business first. For now, he has to focus on getting his weapons made. He tells him/her to smith a bronze sword and a bronze dagger with the high-quality ore. The adventurer smelts the ore into high-quality bronze bars and smiths a high-quality bronze sword and a high-quality bronze dagger using Doric's anvil since it was specifically used to deal with high-quality weapons.
The adventurer shows Doric the items he/she smithed and is somewhat impressed with his work but it is not enough to impress Sir Amik. He tells him/her to go to the Artisan's Workshop and give them to Aksel to finish the weapons. Then, the weapons should be given to Squire Cerlyn, Sir Amik's squire, to gain an audience with him. The adventurer talks to Aksel and he briefly admires the weapons he/she made and would left one of the workshop's amster smiths to "finish" the weapons for Doric if the adventurer goes to Sten and gets a report from him about his progress of laying the tracks to the Dwarven Mines. When the adventurer goes to Sten, he isn't surprised that the artisans wanted to know his progress since there's gold for them. Sten tells him/her that he hasn't been making much progress since there are weekly cave-ins at the caverns so he needs more support to stop the cave-ins. The adventurer returns to Aksel, who isn't surprised at Sten being as miserable as ever and thinks about giving him support soon. He gives him/her the finished bronze dagger and finished bronze sword and remarks that the weapons are fit for a king, with the adventurer correcting him since the weapons are for Sir Amik.
The adventurer goes to Squire Cerlyn, whose full name is Paul Cerlyn but everyone just calls him Cerlyn, and tells him that he/she has weapons to present to Sir Amik. Cerlyn tells him/her that one of Doric's workers is already speaking with Sir Amik right now but since Doric doesn't have any workers right now, it must be an impostor. Cerlyn describes the worker as a dwarf with a good moustache and is somewhat talented with an anvil. Other than that, Cerlyn couldn't see the rest of him since the dwarf was wearing a cloak. The adventurer quickly goes up to interrupt the meeting before Sir Amik agrees to anything and Cerlyn takes the weapons away from him/her.
Sir Amik admires the quality of the blades the concealed dwarf gave to him and the dwarf is pleased since Doric would be pleased with that. Sir Amik has heard that Doric is a superb smith and the dwarf asks him if he agrees to do business with him. Sir Amik agrees to his deal but the adventurer stops them and reveals that the dwarf has been stealing Doric's business away from him. The concealed dwarf admits to his scheme since he thought that Doric deserved it. The dwarf did steal his orders from Doric but he still made the weapons himself and that they are of better quality than Doric could ever imagine. Sir Amik demands to know who the dwarf is since the White Knights won't do business with fraudsters and the dwarf reveals himself as Boric, Doric's son who has been thinking of setting up shop here. The adventurer tells him that Doric has been very worried about him, even though Boric is surprised that he still remembers his own son. Sir Amik tells the adventurer that since he/she seems to be working for Doric, he/she has to deal with Boric somehow. The adventurer thinks that Boric and Doric need to settle the issue once and for all.
Doric is happy that his son has returned to him but Boric tells him that he was the one who ruined his business and has been stealing his customers. Doric is confused on his motives but that fact that he doesn't even know is reason enough for Boric to ruin his business. Boric is angry that Doric has sent him away to Keldagrim instead of letting him stay with him here. He thought that he was a disappointment that Doric didn't want to deal with anymore. Doric is saddened at the very thought of that but Boric still is angry at him. The adventurer tries to calm the family issue by guiding the conversation. The adventurer asks questions that may help, worsen, or not change the situation. Eventually, Boric realizes that he has been acting foolish all this time and asks him for his forgiveness. Doric is happy at the sight of Boric realizing his mistakes and decides to relaunch his business as "Doric & Son." He asks the adventurer to join his business, which he/she accepts his invitation. Right now, the first thing they should do is to clean up the lower level of the workshop for more space and to smith some ornamental chainbody and ornamental platebody for the mannequins and a shop sign. After the adventurer finishes the tasks, Doric thanks him/her for assisting him and hosts the opening ceremony for his business. After the ceremony, Doric gives him/her the fixed amulet, which is the Gofannon amulet.
